      I've always been fond of a little black dress. It's simple, elegant, and stylish for any event. While the LBD is a timeless choice, it has been quite prevalent over the years. For summer 2025, I've noticed many of my most fashionable friends and influencers on social media opting for a different hue in their summer dresses. Just as flattering, versatile, and enduring: brown is the new black, and I'm excited to present the 28 best brown summer dresses to consider for the upcoming season.

      Although it may initially appear to be more suitable for autumn, brown is actually a lovely choice for summer. It’s less harsh than black and far more practical than white or cream (as any mom would say). In fact, shades of brown, from light beiges to deep chocolates, have been gaining popularity throughout the year for several seasons now. This trend is particularly appealing to minimalists who seek something a bit different while avoiding bold colors and prints. Brown serves as a refined alternative to a monochromatic palette, so its rise in popularity is hardly surprising.

      I’m a big fan of this trend and have been creating a lengthy wish list of brown summer dresses over the past few weeks. Almost every brand, from high-end designers to budget-friendly retailers, seems to be adopting the brown dress trend, making it tough to narrow down to just 28 styles. I’ve found beautiful yet comfortable everyday options (hello Nobody's Child Colorado dress), as well as excellent extended size selections from Reformation and ASOS. There are also some stunning styles perfect for dressing up with heels for summer occasions—from Tove's popular tie-front Ceres dress (I've worn my yellow version to numerous weddings) to Sezane's polka dot option favored by French girls.
