While sun protection has traditionally been viewed as a more functional category in some Western markets, there’s a mounting trend toward formulations that prioritize skincare benefits, wearability, and daily use.       If you’re considering trying a Korean sunscreen, I thought it would be helpful to consult the experts about what to look for in an effective formula. As Lee pointed out, you’re generally in good hands with Korean sunscreens, but there are a few key elements to consider.

      "When searching for a good Korean sunscreen, [ensure that] it provides broad-spectrum protection [against] UVA and UVB," advises Cho. "Seek out Korean sunscreens that also offer additional [skincare] benefits like cica for calming and soothing the skin."

      As previously mentioned, Korean sunscreen formulations are typically very lightweight, but Lee suggests opting for a chemical sunscreen if you want that distinct breathable feel. "Physical (mineral) sunscreen formulas tend to be less common in this market," she adds.

      Lastly, Lee recommends verifying clinical support for the stated SPF and PA ratings. "Reputable brands will be open about their testing data."
