12 Solo Dates I’m Excited to Enjoy This Summer
Summer is the season to focus on yourself. Whether you’re single (kudos on surviving uncuffing season!) or simply seeking some quality alone time this summer, it's easier than ever to appreciate your own company during these sunny months. This year, you'll find me listening to "The Giver" by Chappell Roan on my headphones while meandering through my city solo, exploring various farmers' markets, ice cream shops, and more. I believe that this time of year is one of the best opportunities to get out and about, regardless of the solo date ideas you enjoy.
Since it’s likely you already have a busy summer social calendar, don’t forget to carve out some time just for you. Amid all the celebrations, you'll appreciate having a little personal time on a lovely day. Whether you want to venture outside, dress up in a cute outfit from your summer wardrobe, or find ways to stay cool, these 12 solo date ideas will help you tick off all your summer wishes.
1. Go berry picking
Last I checked, wandering through rows of strawberries with a charming basket and some thrifted overalls can be done solo! Skip the awkward small talk of a first date and embrace your main-character vibes while getting lost among berry bushes bathed in sunlight. Bring along a podcast or music playlist, or simply enjoy the soothing sounds of nature as you pick strawberries, raspberries, and more. It’s straightforward, delightful, and your date doesn’t have to end there. Use your freshly picked berries to whip up a homemade fruit pie, fruity pancakes, or channel your inner Meghan Markle by crafting some delicious homemade preserves!
2. Read in the park
This is one of my go-to “touch grass” activities because it adds a romantic touch to my day, while also being relaxing, free, and an ideal way to relish some much-needed alone time. No more doom scrolling or responding to texts; just you, a blanket, a captivating read, and maybe even an iced coffee. I usually find myself in oversized tees and shorts these days, so this is a fun chance to dress up in my favorite gingham outfit while diving into fictional worlds. Let the trees whisper, the pages flip, and disconnect from the digital realm. If reading isn’t your style, no problem! You can still enjoy the beautiful park day by journaling, doodling, or simply basking in the sun—you deserve it.
There’s something enchanting about pairing any activity with the outdoors, and shopping is definitely one of them. Grab a coffee, slip on your most comfortable walking shoes, and enjoy the sunshine while wandering down charming shopping streets for some ultimate solo retail therapy. While shopping with friends can be a blast, exploring boutique streets alone allows you to shop at your own pace and experiment with your personal style without any outside opinions or pressure. Plus, popping into shops provides a perfect opportunity to cool off in air-conditioning before braving the heat again!
4. Treat yourself to ice cream
In my view, we don't celebrate getting ice cream during the summer nearly enough. There's nothing quite like savoring a scoop in the sunshine or on a warm summer evening. To elevate your solo ice cream outing, choose a shop you’ve never visited and try a new flavor. This summer, there’s no need to settle for a carton of Ben & Jerry’s! You can use your sweet craving as a reason to get outside, appreciate the warm weather, and discover a new spot. Bring along a summer read or journal if you plan to sit at the ice cream parlor, or stroll around the neighborhood with your scoop to fully embrace that summer vibe.
5. Attend an outdoor workout class
The best aspect of warm weather is finally being able to take your workouts outside. From invigorating walks to yoga sessions in the park, there are numerous fitness options available outdoors in the summer. Sign up for an outdoor workout class nearby, or see if your gym has any outdoor offerings. Running clubs and walking groups can also provide a chance to meet or chat with locals if that’s what you’re after! But if you just want to enjoy getting some exercise in the lovely weather, that’s valid too. Join a yoga or fitness session, then treat yourself to a coffee afterward because you’ve earned it after working up a sweat!
6. Have breakfast on the patio
It’s patio season! If you have any outdoor space—from a patio to a rooftop or backyard—now is the perfect time to make the most of it. To transform a home patio meal into a true solo date, indulge in the experience. Buy some fresh flowers and ingredients for your favorite brunch recipe. Brew yourself some coffee or take a quick walk to fetch your preferred latte. Play some smooth morning jazz as you cook and then soak in a leisurely morning under the sun with yourself. If you lack outdoor space, no worries. Treat yourself to breakfast and request a sunny spot to sit. This is an ideal way to slow down
