Recently, the A.Emery Jalen sandals captured the attention of our editors, leading four of our team members to purchase a pair of these stylish wrap-around strappy flats. It seems there’s something in the air, as another shoe style has taken the spotlight this time—and we are absolutely loving it.       Inspired by the American girl in Paris, this shoe arrived in boutiques in late March as part of a collaboration with the ultimate Southern Californian trendsetter, Devon Lee Carlson. The co-founder of Wildflower Case, influencer, and rising supermodel, Carlson hails from Los Angeles and has a wardrobe to match. When the brand announced the exclusive capsule collection, they stated, “You probably want to be best friends with Devon Lee Carlson. We can’t facilitate that, but we had her design this collection for you, which is kind of the next best thing.” They are, of course, spot on.

      Carlson, as a certified It girl, exudes an infectious energy that makes her relatable. With a talent for vintage shopping and identifying hot new trends, she manages to make any outfit—from archival milkmaid dresses to tiger-print capris—look fantastic. The 30-year-old has captured the attention of over 1.5 million fans who admire her uniquely authentic personal style. I proudly include myself among these fans, having been persuaded by Carlson to invest in items ranging from a neon green and pink floral lace Collina Strada tank with faux feather sleeves to Sandy Liang tweed coats. Thus, when this collection launched, I was extremely eager to take notice.

      The range and its promotional imagery felt ripped right from the pages of Sofia Coppola’s debut photo book, particularly reminiscent of the years in The Virgin Suicides. Dreamy and romantic, Carlson poses on carousel horses in mid-rise denim decorated with heart-shaped pockets, relaxes on a floral duvet wearing the ideal little black dress, and sits on a tiled bathroom basin in a bright yellow scoop-neck t-shirt. While there are multiple pieces to desire, it was indeed the Suzanne ballet flats that captured the attention (and hearts) of my colleagues and me.

      The Suzanne ballet flats are French-inspired shoes featuring a “squoval” toe shape, a slightly elevated heel, a woven ribbon trim, and a bow embellishment. Available in UK sizes 4 to 9 (equivalent to EU sizes 34.5 to 42), this style comes in three unique color options. My personal favorite is a soft suede cornflower hue reminiscent of Malibu beach, along with a warm chocolate brown and a vibrant silver with pink stitching.       First and foremost, I must say that I am a ballet flat enthusiast. I have a strong aversion to trainers and have yet to meet a pair of flats I didn't like (sneaker aficionados included). After reviewing the best suede ballet flats on the market, I was instantly drawn to this pair, resembling a moth attracted to a very soft flame. There’s something about the texture that effortlessly enhances even the simplest look.

      The blend of materials adds intrigue and uniqueness to any outfit and, thanks to the quality of the fabric, makes you appear more polished. As soon as I slipped on these flats, I fell in love. The lining is incredibly soft, showcasing the craftsmanship evident in every Reformation piece. Even with a well-defined structure, I found walking in them all day to be comfortable. Rather than feeling restricted by their firmness, it was as if my feet were being cushioned and supported—almost like walking on clouds.

      Moreover, each design feature transformed everything I paired them with into a high-end ensemble. The woven details were particularly striking, especially when peeking out from beneath straight-leg jeans or styled with a simple lace mini dress. Additionally, despite the challenges of caring for suede, they endured London’s humidity and survived more than 10,000 steps in the office, commutes on the Tube, and beyond! From dinners to after-work drinks and brunch gatherings, I never found an occasion where they weren’t appropriate. While I did exercise caution around sticky floors and spills due to the suede material, I noted that there are also two other leather styles for those seeking carefree wear.
