**Hydration Is Key**
"Dry heels and toes can ruin a pedicure. Daily application of a rich foot cream or balm, especially around the heels, big toe, and sides of the feet, is crucial," says Tucker. Carmichael adds that soaking your feet before a home pedicure can help hydrate and soften any rough skin.
**File Your Feet When They're Dry—Not Wet**
You might think it's best to use a foot file on wet skin, but that's not accurate. "Dry filing enables precise exfoliation and achieves smoother, longer-lasting results, particularly around heels and pressure points," Tucker explains.

Lastly, Tucker recommends using a base coat before applying traditional nail polish. "Especially with darker shades, always use a base to prevent staining and enhance polish adhesion," she advises.
