I’ve found some of my absolute favorite items on Amazon. My desk chair, the large mirror in my bedroom, the emotional-support water bottle I carry everywhere—plus, I even got my coffee table from Amazon. I can't resist a great deal and quick shipping, and Amazon excels in both areas. There’s no better occasion to shop with the giant retailer than during Amazon Prime Day.
Returning this July, Prime Day features deals that rival significant savings found on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s an ideal time to finalize the purchases of items lingering in your cart or to restock essentials while they are discounted. This summer's Amazon Prime Day is expected to be massive, but there are a few new elements to be aware of before you dive into shopping.
Continue reading to discover everything you need to know to maximize your experience during Amazon Prime Day, including when the sale begins and how to uncover the best discounts.
When is Amazon Prime Day?
This summer's Amazon Prime Day will launch on Tuesday, July 8. In past years, the sale lasted only 48 hours, but this year—marking a first—Amazon Prime Day will extend over four days. The sale officially starts at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time (3:01 a.m. Eastern) on Tuesday and continues through Friday, July 11. These additional days of savings are perfect for those (like me) who prefer to think over their cart selections before making a final decision.
What items are discounted for Prime Day?
During Amazon Prime Day, sales will occur across various categories, such as clothing, furniture, home decor, kitchen essentials, books, and electronics, ensuring that no matter what you're looking for, you can score excellent deals. In my opinion, the best discounts are typically in the home category, where substantial savings can be found on high-ticket items like area rugs, office furniture, kitchen appliances, and indulgent purchases like the Samsung Frame TV. However, some items may sell out quickly, so shopping early is advisable.
This year, Amazon is introducing "Today’s Big Deals," which are themed releases of some of the best offers during the sale. These will be available daily at midnight Pacific Time throughout the event and will be offered until supplies last, making it worthwhile to stay up late to catch significant discounts. Additionally, Amazon will introduce new deals as frequently as every five minutes during the sale, providing numerous chances to save.
How to find the best deals on Amazon Prime Day
The Prime Day sale is exclusively available to Prime members, so you should sign up for a membership (or a free trial) as soon as possible. Membership costs $14.99 per month or $139 annually, but you’ll gain numerous benefits, including fast, free delivery and access to the sale. If you appreciate quick shipping within one or two days, the membership fee is definitely worth it.
You can check what’s on sale (including some early deals currently available) on the Prime Day page on Amazon’s website. A valuable tip for finding the best deals: Set up alerts to receive notifications about any sales on items you're interested in. Since new deals can appear at any moment during the event—this includes “lightning deals” that are only available while supplies last—ease some of the shopping pressure by visiting the Prime Day event page on the Amazon Shopping app. You can create alerts for any items on your Amazon wishlist, in your cart, or marked “Save for Later.” Thus, when the price drops on an item, you’ll be the first to know.
