When the air conditioning is at full blast and you're still perspiring before stepping outside, your motivation to get dressed and apply makeup can hit an all-time low. But here’s a little tip: With the easy-to-wear outfits that summer brings, the months from June to August are actually the simplest to look good in. No more enduring layers and strategies to create a look you can be proud of—in the summer, just a few reliable styling tips will do the trick.
If you prioritize sleep over preparing in the morning or simply want to put minimal effort into your appearance, summer gives you the perfect chance to make it seem like you spent ages getting ready, when in fact you only took about 10 minutes. Simple dresses, a natural makeup look, and a handful of stylish accessories are the foolproof tricks to help us get out the door on those hot summer days.
Want to appear as though you took an hour to get ready when you actually just rolled out of bed? We’ve got you covered. Maintain your snooze-button routine with these six summer style hacks.

1. Embrace dresses
We’ve mentioned it before and we’ll say it again: One of the best aspects of warmer weather is the opportunity to wear dresses. They’re not only among the most comfortable garments you can wear, but they also serve as a one-piece outfit that you can simply put on and leave the house.
If you don’t have a collection of dresses you love, consider investing in a few versatile ones—such as a lightweight mini dress or a crochet midi dress that can also function as a swimsuit cover-up. You don’t need a huge selection; just a few that you can rotate until fall arrives.
2. Plan your outfit the night before
If you struggle with oversleeping, I can relate. Getting out from under my covers every morning is a constant battle, which often leads to hitting the snooze button and having less time to get ready. The key to not letting it affect your look? Planning your outfit the night before.
You might dislike the idea because your mom made you do it as a child, but it's foolproof. Knowing what you plan to wear will help you avoid the all-too-frequent situation where you're rushing and trying on multiple outfits you don’t like, ultimately leaving in something you hate. Even if you change a few details, like accessories or shoes, based on your mood that morning, having a foundation will save you time.
3. Create a go-to uniform
It’s easy to fall into the habit of wearing similar outfits repeatedly, and contrary to popular belief, that’s something to embrace. If you know what looks good on you and have a few pieces that make you feel your best, create a mental list of outfits you can easily grab in a hurry. For a day of running errands, it could be denim shorts and a knitted tank; for a barbecue or a night out on a patio, it might be a midi dress and sandals. Forget what Kate Sanders told us as kids—here, repeating outfits is totally acceptable.

4. Invest in statement jewelry
Baroque pearls and seasonal designs make summer jewelry the most sought-after of the year. Even if you’re just wearing your favorite pair of linen shorts and a tank top, bold jewelry can enhance any outfit, making it feel more styled and intentional. If your outfit feels lackluster, consider layering a favorite pearl necklace or wearing statement earrings to elevate your look.
5. Keep your closet seasonally appropriate
I know, I know, regularly removing pieces you don’t wear from your closet is easier said than done. But my method for decluttering my closet? Doing it consistently rather than tackling it all at once.
When I come across an item that no longer fits or doesn’t make me feel good, I immediately place it in a donation bag I keep under my bed instead of returning it to my closet to collect dust. I also store off-season clothing under my bed, only bringing it out at the right time of year. A clutter-free closet helps you clearly see what you have available, which can actually make you feel like you have more options, not fewer.
6. Perfect your no-makeup makeup routine
No one wants to slather on a lot of makeup just to have it sweat off before reaching the end of the block. Summer is perfect for no-makeup makeup looks, which usually require just a few easy products. Skip heavy foundation in favor of a lightweight, heat-friendly look instead.
