The Heatwave Is Here! 5 Outfits to Experiment With If You're Unsure of What to Wear Right Now
There’s absolutely nothing I dislike about summer. Nothing at all. Therefore, I believe I'm well-suited to discuss which outfits are actually effective during a heatwave, as someone who eagerly takes any opportunity to remove layers and enjoy warm-weather attire. I fully indulge in every element of summer fashion—imagine airy linens, light accessories, stylish sandals, and cheerful bags. How can anyone resist a new pair of flip-flops? (I'm fully on board with the return of jelly sandals.) Or a trendy straw bag? (The Loewe buckle one is definitely on my wish list.) And we can't overlook the pure delight of leaving home without having to bring a jacket. Add to that the enjoyment of mid-week Aperols in the sunlight and park picnics filled with tasty snacks, and I'm completely in my happy place. That said, I understand why some may not be fond of the sweaty season, particularly when trying to sleep without a fan! But often, the challenge lies in deciding what to wear when temperatures reach 25°C and beyond, which isn’t something we in the UK encounter regularly. Thus, I'm here to eliminate the uncertainty of dressing for the heat, with input from some of my favorite ladies on Instagram.
Whether it’s trying the lightweight lace cami top of the season, investing in comfortable stretch-waist sporty shorts, or sticking with simple basics like a cotton vest top or linen shirt, here are five incredibly easy outfits that are sure to keep you cool during this heatwave—may it last forever (in my opinion).
What to Wear in 25º+ Weather:
1. Cami Top + Denim Shorts + Flip Flops
Style Notes: The hottest days call for white, white, and more white! White is the coolest color to wear as it reflects the sun’s rays. I love how Chloe has styled this season's top (a lace cami) with the season's go-to shorts (Bermuda) and, yes, you guessed it, the sandals of the season (red flip-flops). Impressive.
Shop the Look:
- Anthropologie Tie-Strap Hanky Lace Tank Top
Little white tops are everywhere.
- Arket Perfect White Denim Bermuda Shorts
It seems Arket heard my request.
- Free People Around Town Flip Flops
These come in 12 colors!
- Whistles Neutral Ruhi Collar Straw Tote
Doesn't this Whistles bag look so premium?
2. Linen Co-ord + Chunky Accessories
Style Notes: I’m a sucker for co-ords, and despite already having a collection in my wardrobe dedicated to easy pairings, I always want more. This brown linen trouser and floaty top set looks so effortless paired with bold black chunky accessories. Excuse me while I replicate this entire look immediately.
Shop the Look:
- Reformation Kristen Linen Two Piece
This also comes in cream or polka dots—naturally, I want them all.
- COS Molten Pendant Necklace
Monikh inspired me to get this one.
- M&S Collection Suede Flat Square Toe Sandals
Yes, suede works for summer too.
3. Seersucker Mini + Mesh Pumps
Style Notes: While any mini dress will work in summer, a stretchy seersucker style is recommended. It allows room to move freely—if you choose a plaid version like Salome, you’ll also be embracing a key trend for summer 2025. Luckily, I’ve found a very similar style from Damson Madder below.
Shop the Look:
- Damson Madder Bluebelle Shirred Mini Dress
- MANGO Embroidered Mesh Shoes
- DRAGON DIFFUSION Mini Leather Flat Gora Tote Bag
Dragon Diffusion never disappoints.
- Daisy London Estée Lalonde Duo Dome Mixed Layering Set
4. Linen Skirt + Sporty Shorts + Loafers
Style Notes: Putting the wrong shoe theory into practice, Georgia pairs penny loafers with sporty Adidas shorts—and I dig it. The socks will prevent your feet from getting too sweaty, the cap is perfect for managing hot-weather hair, and a loose linen shirt will be a lifesaver all season long.
Shop the Look:
- COS Oversized Linen Shirt
COS excels in shirting year-round.
- adidas Originals Three Stripe Sprinter Shorts
I can confirm they’re SO good.
- H&M's premium footwear is a must-try.
- ANINE BING Embroidered Jeremy Baseball Cap
Perfect for covering up sweaty hair.
5. Vest Top + Maxi Skirt + Sandals
Style Notes: A white vest top, though simple, is one of those forever-reliable staples that form the foundation of many fabulous outfits. Plus, it’s cool and light, ideal for surviving a heatwave. I love how Sasha styled hers with a black maxi skirt and elegant jewelry.
