I have a fondness for lipstick and lip gloss, but this summer, I'm transitioning to lip stain. The appeal of a long-lasting color that requires no touch-ups is too tempting to pass up, especially with my busy schedule and the sweltering heat. It's the effortless yet impactful makeup product I've been looking for.

      Recently, I added a couple of TikTok-famous lip stains to my makeup collection—Wonderskin's Wonder Blading Lip Stain and Sacheu's Peel-Off Lip Liner. I recommend both because they are budget-friendly and last a long time. The only drawback is that they don't feel very hydrating on my dry lips, which often leads me to apply lip balm or a moisturizing lip product on top. While it's not the biggest hassle, I have always wished for a lip stain that offers both hydration and longevity.

      It seems Violette Serrat, a seasoned makeup artist and founder of Violette_FR, must have sensed my unvoiced desire, as the brand has just introduced Lip Nectars, which are hydrating, glossy, and long-lasting lip stains. "The inspiration for Lip Nectar came to me when I struggled to find a truly 'grown-up' lip stain," Serrat explains on the brand's website. "I aimed to create a product that performed exceptionally well while being immensely nourishing and comfortable to apply and wear. My vision was for it to feel luxurious and indulgent, like jam—rich in texture, with a lavish burst of color, the perfect level of shine, and just the right amount of stain, all without being sticky."

      I believe she accomplished her vision because, to me, these lip stains feel refined, and they are nothing like the old-school versions I used in my teenage years, which often felt thick, sticky, and uneven. These are elegant, effortless, and decidedly sexy.

      There are several reasons for this—especially the texture, finish, and formula. I’d describe the texture as a lightweight liquid that absorbs into the lips without any heaviness or stickiness. The finish is high-shine, which I appreciate since most of my other lip stains have a conventional matte or satin finish. Lastly, the formula is an oil-in-water emulsion, loaded with hydrating ingredients such as squalane, shea butter, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid. (This explains why I don’t need to layer lip balm over it.)

      True to Violette_FR’s style, each of the four shades is spot on. Inspired by nature, the shades are derived from nectar-rich flowers, which is reflected in the name.
