(Image credit: Converse) Converse is making waves once again. The renowned shoe retailer has recently introduced a new collection inspired by its archives, named Converse 1908, in collaboration with Tyler, the Creator’s brand Golf le Fleur. The collection was unveiled at a pop-up event in Los Angeles on June 20, and the shoes are now available for purchase globally at Converse and Golf le Fleur*. Tyler personally selected the inaugural designs of the Converse 1908 collection (the Naut-1 and the Jogger) for the launch. In a pre-launch media roundtable, he shared his thoughts on why he chose these two styles from the archives.

(Image credit: Converse) "Honestly, I dislike the concept of nostalgia and the notion that everything must carry a deeper significance. I just went through the archives and thought, 'These shoes are simply cool. I want to wear them and create amazing colorways.' There were so many other silhouettes like that. It was like, 'What are we doing? We need to showcase these pieces to the world,'" he elaborates.

The 1908 collection aims to highlight Converse’s influence in developing sneaker culture and encouraging style experimentation for many years. "The significance of 1908 is that these designs have genuinely endured over time. The Naut-1 and Jogger were not merely products but pivotal moments in how individuals expressed themselves through sneakers. Their return serves as a reminder that Converse has been a significant player in sneaker culture for more than a century," remarks Sam Smallidge, Converse’s archive manager.
