I Attempted Suni Lee's Method for Achieving Glowy, Dewy Skin—Here Are My Impressions
As a beauty editor, it's crucial for me to stay updated on the latest industry releases. Earlier this month, I learned that Tatcha was launching its Dewy Milk Moisturizer, featuring Olympic gymnast Suni Lee as the spokesperson. Typically, when I hear about something new from Tatcha, I expect great results. However, as someone with sensitive combination skin, I often find moisturizers to be inconsistent. Some tend to be too heavy and make my skin oily, while others lack sufficient hydration, leaving my skin feeling dry and taut. Nonetheless, I stumbled upon a video of Lee discussing how well the moisturizer suited her sensitive and dry skin from years of gymnastics. If it can work for her, perhaps it would work for me as well. I'm always searching for beauty products that can impart a glow, and her skin looked stunning after applying it. I decided to try it out for myself. Read on for my candid review.
About Tatcha's Dewy Milk Moisturizer
The Dewy Milk Moisturizer feels like a counterpart to the brand's Dewy Skin Cream, which debuted in 2019. However, this formula is tailored for combination-to-oily skin rather than combination-to-dry skin. It features key ingredients like Japanese purple rice, prebiotic green tea extract, and zinc hyaluronate, which work together to regulate oil production, support a healthy microbiome, and protect against environmental stressors with antioxidants. According to Tatcha's website, it draws inspiration from the Japanese concept of "uruoi," which signifies a deeply hydrated appearance. While there's a thin line between being glowy and greasy, clinical results indicated that 100% of participants observed a reduction in oiliness within just one week. The moisturizer aims to promote hydrated, plump skin with a lightweight formula that doesn’t clog pores.
Pros: Provides a glow, enhances elasticity, softens skin
Cons: Expensive, takes a few minutes to completely absorb
How I Used Tatcha's Dewy Milk Moisturizer
Using Tatcha's Dewy Milk Moisturizer was simple and seamlessly integrated into my skincare routine. I chose to apply it on a no-makeup day, beginning with the Farmacy Green Clean Gentle Creamy Cleanser. Next, I used my Pixi Glow Tonic, applying the toner to cotton pads and gently swiping it over my face. Finally, it was time for the moisturizer.
I applied this moisturizer similarly to how I use others. I pumped the product onto the back of my hand and then used my other hand to massage it into my skin. Normally, I would just scoop some moisturizer with my fingers, but since this was a new product, I opted to use it gradually. Given my sensitive skin, this serves as an additional precaution to ensure the new product doesn’t cause any adverse reactions. (Note: This is a practice I follow after conducting a patch test, which is always advised before trying a new product.)
The Results
I can't deny it—the way this moisturizer instantly altered the look and feel of my skin left me amazed. It transformed my previously dull complexion to a revitalized one, making me feel like a glazed donut. (If you're familiar with the trend, you’ll understand.) The product looked so good on its own that I opted to forgo makeup entirely.
My skin felt softer and bouncier without the sticky residue that some moisturizers can leave behind. Since it’s formulated for combination-to-oily skin, coupled with the glowing results, I was certain this would be my go-to moisturizer for summer.
Is Tatcha's Dewy Milk Moisturizer Worth It?
Although $64 may appear to be an indulgence, I can confidently say that it’s worth every cent. A small amount of product goes a long way, meaning it should last a while before needing to be replaced. Given the benefits and results, the formula lives up to its claims. However, if you have combination-to-dry skin, you're likely to see better results with the Dewy Skin Cream. Like me, you might find yourself switching formulas based on the season and deciding to invest in both.
