This Shoe Trend from the 2010s is Set for a Major Comeback.
If the sight of Hailey Bieber and Alexa Chung both sporting the same type of heels within the same month doesn't spark your fashion instincts, I don't know what will. (Even better, Bieber donned the style twice this summer!) Clear heels are making a comeback—just like many trends from the 2010s—and it's not just celebrities who are adopting this trend. This refreshed shoe style has captured the attention of fashion enthusiasts everywhere.
From a fashion trend perspective, this resurgence is logical: Clear mesh and jelly sandals have taken over the streets this summer, and you’d struggle to leave home without encountering a pair styled with a light sundress. Additionally, sheer and transparent designs, from lacy skirts to mesh tops, continue to thrive, leading shoes to follow suit. The 2025 iteration of the clear heel is less formal than its earlier pointed-toe, dressy version. It's no longer paired with a body-con dress (though those are in vogue too). Instead, the latest clear heel designs have a more playful vibe, as reflected in their styling.
The versatility of clear shoes makes them ideal for pairing with statement dresses or sets (look at Bieber's custom Pucci outfit for example). With anklets, toe rings, and shoe jewelry trending, they also serve as a perfect blank canvas for adding personal touches. Moreover, luxury brands like Tory Burch are creatively reinventing the shoe in an innovative way. Their Clear Pump ($500) presents a prototype-like design, featuring visible raw materials such as cork at the heel and a green cap at the toe. The recent Mango collaboration with Supriya Lele has also revived the shoe in contemporary fashion with clear wedges that include a cap separating the big toe from the other toes, Tabi style. (The brand additionally released a diamond toe ring to complement them.)
