My standards as a Beauty Director are famously high—this £9 SPF has truly impressed me.
For those who are new here, there are three essential things you should know about me before we continue: 1. I believe in being brutally honest in all areas of my life, especially at work. 2. I have a fondness for luxury—beauty products that make me feel worthy truly appeal to me. 3. I am fiercely loyal to my go-to skincare items. Now that’s settled, let me share my recent obsession with a new £9 facial sunscreen.
Shannon Lawlor after using Simple Invisible UV Fluid SPF 50. Until a couple of months ago, I had been using the same SPF for almost two years (just so you know, Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face is still, in my opinion, the best sunscreen ever). Every day, I applied the moisturizing SPF cream as the final step in my skincare regimen. I believed I had found my SPF soulmate, and I wasn’t planning to switch.
Then, an email arrived in my inbox. Simple wanted to let me know about a secret new SPF fluid: Simple Invisible UV Fluid SPF 50. While I receive countless similar emails every week, something about this one caught my attention, so I decided to try it out for a couple of months—something I don't usually do. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. It’s so impressive that after finishing my first tube, it became my top recommendation for an affordable SPF. (Sadly, my Mecca Cosmetica soulmate is not in the budget-friendly category.) I'm genuinely surprised and humbled. Here’s what you should know...
Simple Invisible UV Fluid SPF50, Reviewed
**Simple Invisible UV Fluid With SPF 50**
**Pros:**
- Remarkably affordable for such a premium formula
- Contains groundbreaking ingredient innovations
- Suitable for all skin types
- Truly invisible finish
- Hydrating without greasiness
- High sun protection
- An overall outstanding everyday skincare product that meets many needs
**Cons:**
- If you prefer a rich, thick texture, the lightweight consistency may not suit you
- It’s not inherently a luxe product
**The Formula:**
Firstly, I want to mention that the tube shown above is not the final packaging; this version was sent to me before the launch, and some changes have been made to the exterior. So don’t be alarmed: the product is indeed called Simple Invisible UV Fluid SPF 50.
Now, about this formula: it is an incredibly lightweight fluid. It has a similar runny consistency to La Roche-Posay's renowned Anthelios UVMune, but it offers much better hydration due to its nourishing ceramides.
Within this seemingly simple fluid, there’s a blend of highly impressive skincare ingredients. First, it provides effective protection against both UVA and UVB rays—offering the same level of defense on the hottest days as it does on the cloudiest. Additionally, it contains niacinamide, one of my favorite ingredients, known for its soothing and nourishing properties, oil-regulating benefits, and ability to even out skin tone. The standout component, however, is Simple's trademarked Gluta-Amino™, a blend of powerful antioxidants and amino acids (especially glutathione) that enhance the skin's natural glow and combat uneven skin tone.
And it manages to achieve all this without greasiness or any white residue (being a chemical formula, it avoids any chalky minerals).
**The Application:**
As noted, the fluid has a runny texture, yet the nourishing ingredients give it a lightweight lotion feel. It spreads effortlessly (as you can see from my shaky, one-handed application above) and genuinely turns invisible.
Initially, the skin has a slight shine (as is typical after applying any lotion), but within seconds, any visible trace of the SPF completely disappears. After application, it feels like a barely-there, lightweight serum.
Simple Invisible UV Fluid SPF50 also has a light and fresh sunscreen scent, which I personally enjoy, but those who dislike fragrance in their skincare should take note.
The most remarkable aspect after application is the luminous, “lit-from-within” glow my skin achieves. It's a radiance I've only experienced after an intense sauna session, leaving my skin looking plump, naturally radiant, and healthy.
**The Verdict:**
As shown above, I’m not wearing any base products—just a bit of blush on my cheekbones, some brow gel, and a few coats of mascara. My skin, however, looks as if I've applied a glow-enhancing skin tint. It's neither greasy nor shiny, just beautifully radiant. I can sincerely say that I’ve never encountered a facial sunscreen with such an impressive ingredient list (and results) for under £20. Even the best affordable sunscreens I've encountered tend to be around the £20 mark. This has been a challenge, as when people ask for affordable SPF suggestions, I have to clarify that £20-
