Phlur's New Cherry Stem Perfume Has the Aroma of a Tempting Cocktail—Here’s Why It’s My Top Choice for Fall Fragrance.
Phlur is one of my favorite fragrance brands. I appreciate its minimalist design and its focus on storytelling through scent. Most importantly, I love the products—the varied range of perfumes and body mists. While I could talk about Phlur's fragrance lineup for hours (and I already have), the brand's latest perfume has completely captured my interest. Introducing Phlur's Cherry Stem Eau de Parfum, a sultry fragrance that has become my top choice for fall.
I must admit that cherry scents can be polarizing. I’ve avoided them in the past since they often come across as overly sweet, syrupy, or artificial to my liking. If a fragrance smells more like Red 40 than fresh cherries, I'm not interested. However, when done right, cherry scents can be surprisingly elegant. Cherry Stem is a prime example. Inspired by flirtatious encounters in dimly lit bars, this luxury cherry fragrance is so sultry and captivating that I can’t stop wearing it. I’d even go as far as to say it’s my favorite cherry fragrance of all time. It’s that exceptional. Read on for more about this ideal fall fragrance and exclusive insights from Phlur’s creative director, Chriselle Lim.
Fragrance family: Fruity woods
Fragrance notes: Black cherry, orange brandy, red freesia, sugared jasmine, plum nectar, ebony woods, caramel, soft leather accord
“Cherry Stem was inspired by flirtation,” Lim explains. “The crossing of legs, the lingering eye contact across the bar… It’s mysterious, seductive, yet still full of energy. Many cherry scents can feel juvenile or syrupy, but Cherry Stem captures my vision for a cherry fragrance: fruity but more intricate, sexy, and mature.” Unlike other cherry perfumes, this one doesn’t solely focus on cherry. While black cherry remains the star, it is complemented by other sophisticated notes. There are floral elements (freesia and jasmine), gourmand notes (brandy and caramel), and grounding components (wood and leather). The overall effect is refined, layered, and complex—a fragrance that leaves people wanting more.
"Cherry Stem is the ideal fall scent: mysterious, dark, and sexy simultaneously," Lim shares. I concur. The wood and leather notes evoke the elegant, dimly lit ambiance of a stylish bar. The floral and gourmand hints remind you of a cocktail embellished with a single cherry. It feels warm, cozy, and bold all at once. It's the perfect date-night fragrance, whether enjoyed alone, with a partner, or with an intriguing stranger from across the bar.
Phlur fragrances are known for their ability to be layered, and Cherry Stem is no different. "I always apply my fragrances to my pulse points, which are my wrists and neck," Lim says. "For pairings, if you want to emphasize depth and leather, Cherry Stem and Rose Whip complement each other well. I also love layering Heavy Cream over Cherry Stem for a more gourmand vibe."
