I've always struggled with weak, flexible, and fragile nails—this nail polish has been a game changer for them.
After developing an allergy and quitting gel nails a couple of years ago (crying face), I took on the challenge of finding the best gel nail alternatives and the top nail polishes that don’t smudge or chip shortly after application, as part of my role as a beauty editor. I am also on the lookout for nail-boosting products to maintain well-groomed hands. However, since I stopped using gels, I have observed that my nails have become more susceptible to breaking and chipping. Without the thick protective layer of gel or BIAB, they aren’t as strong as they used to be. Therefore, I've been searching for an effective nail strengthener to fortify my nails and encourage their growth. After noticing Dior's Base Vernis (£30) featured frequently on many celebrity manicurists' social media, I decided to give it a try. Since then, I have had no regrets. **Dior Base Vernis Review**
**The Formula**
This polish serves as both a base coat and nail strengthener, making it an excellent choice to wear alone or beneath your nail polish. It contains strengthening ingredients like apricot kernel oil and sweet almond oil, which help moisturize the nails, while polymers contribute to hardening weak nails. The formula has a sheer consistency; it’s less of a tinted nail perfector and more of a translucent base coat with a hint of peach. It has a thick texture that applies smoothly and evenly, and the large brush allows you to cover a significant area with just one or two strokes. Additionally, it dries quickly, which is perfect for those of us who are impatient and tend to smudge our nails. It also has a noticeable glassy finish. Over the last couple of months, I have mostly worn Base Vernis on its own, and my nails not only feel stronger, but they also look healthier. The white tips have become brighter, and I’ve experienced far fewer breaks than usual. I have tested it as a base coat as well, but I found it didn’t provide enough grip for the polish on top; it almost makes my nails too slick. Nonetheless, nail polish applies effortlessly over it, resulting in a mirror-like shine.
**Before**
Here’s a picture of my nails from a few months back. They may not appear too awful (thanks to Chanel Ballerina nail polish and Essie Gel Couture Top Coat for concealing them!), but I was having trouble growing them. Beneath the polish, they were weak, flexible, and easily prone to breakage and splits. I was struggling to achieve any length.
**After**
After a couple of months of using Dior Base Vernis, I can noticeably see an improvement in my nail health. I have been able to grow my nails much longer, and they feel significantly stronger. Although I believe that "nails are jewels, not tools," I will sometimes rip open packages with my hands. Thankfully, my nails have remained both long and strong. In the photo above, I’m wearing OPI Funny Bunny and Baby, Take A Vow polishes, and it’s clear that the tips of my nails are much brighter than they were previously.
**My Verdict**
Having used Dior Base Vernis for a few months, I can confidently say my nails continue to improve. They are in better condition than they have been in years, and I've managed to grow them longer, allowing me to file them into a soft oval or almond shape. The picture above shows just two coats of Base Vernis, and while it may not provide traditional nail coverage, I’m genuinely impressed by how healthy my nails appear—I cannot believe these are essentially my bare nails now. Yes, £30 is a significant amount to spend on a nail strengthener, but for something that truly delivers results, I believe it's worth the investment.

Think of Dior's Nail Glow as a liquid blush for your nails. It offers a sheer pink tint that instantly enhances the appearance of your nail plates, giving them a healthy and glossy look.
Dior's Top Coat is one of the fastest-drying top coats I’ve ever encountered (no long waits here). It applies as a thin, glossy layer that provides a beautiful finish to your polish, helping it stay chip-free longer.
The chic pot alone makes it worth the purchase, but the apricot-scented cream inside is incredibly valuable as well. Massage it into your nails and cuticles to combat dryness and hangnails while nourishing your nails.
If you're looking for lighter hydration, this serum-cuticle-oil hybrid features a built-in brush for quick application onto nails and cuticles, and it absorbs quickly. It's perfect for keeping in your bag or at your desk.
Although I haven't tried this myself, I’ve heard from nail technicians that this is one
