"Art Russia. Classics. A New Perspective" Liza Arzamasova, Irina Chaykovskaya, Valeria Gai-Germanika, Sergei Filin and many others at the opening of the contemporary academic art fair
On September 24, the ceremonial opening of the Fair of Contemporary Academic Art "Art Russia. Classics. A New Perspective" took place at Gostiny Dvor, where more than 100 stands by galleries and independent artists will be presented to the general public.
The first to attend the event were: Irina Chaikovskaya, Liza Arzamasova, Valeria Gai Germanika, Elena Pinskaya, Artem Ivanov, Sergei Filin and Maria Prorvich, Daniil Fedorov, Nikita Musatov, Mariam Tillyaeva, Roman Arkhipov, Irina Yovovich, Olesya Kozhina, Adel Bikulova, Marko Radinovich, Yulia Kiseleva, ISTOKIYA and many others.
The project is organized by the Synergy Corporation and art historian Elizaveta Frolova with the support of the Russian Academy of Arts (RAH).
"For seven years of the 'Art Russia' project we have presented contemporary art and observed a demand from artists of the classical school for a specialized platform to showcase their works. Today we have provided them with such a space. The Russian art school has a rich history. I am convinced that even today there are outstanding talents among academicians worthy of world fame. But they clearly lack systematic support and a trend toward the development of academic art. Therefore, the mission of the fair is to popularize the contemporary Russian classical school," said Vadim Lobov, president of the Synergy Corporation.
"'Art Russia. Classics. A New Perspective' has become the first Russian cultural project in the format of a fair of contemporary academic art to be supported by leading institutions – the Russian Academy of Arts, the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov (MGAHI), the Moscow Architectural Institute (MARCHI), the M. B. Grekov Studio of Military Artists and the 'Leninka Art' project. 'The "Art Russia" fair will now exist in two formats. In spring we will present the fair of contemporary art, and in autumn – contemporary academic art. It feels as if recently we have shifted our vector toward conceptualism and forgotten where our foundations lie. There is a need to create a platform where contemporary academic artists will be represented. Here they will be able to find their first collectors,' said Elizaveta Frolova, co-founder of the 'Art Russia' fair, curator and art historian.
