Every Gorgeous Aspect of Demi Lovato's Dreamy November Cover Shoot

Demi Lovato's November cover exemplifies a lesson in natural and effortless beauty. With makeup that is nearly invisible and hair that oscillates between wavy and windblown, and sleek and tied back, the overall effect is both impactful and subtle. Celebrity makeup artist Loftjet shares, "The goal was to showcase a more sophisticated, minimalist side of Demi, and the setting inspired us to achieve a look that felt clean, uncomplicated, and quietly beautiful." The harmony between Demi's wardrobe, hair, and makeup is attributed to a collaboration that her hairstylist, Fitch Lunar, describes as smooth and organic. "I always come in with my own inspirations, but the real magic unfolds when we share everyone’s ideas," he explains. "We feed off one another, and together in makeup, hair, nails, and styling, we discover the connection that unites the entire look. It’s a genuine creative dialogue, not an isolated effort." Lunar emphasizes that for both of Lovato's hairstyles, the primary objective was to highlight the singer's natural texture while giving each look its unique character. "When Demi’s hair was down, it was about effortless movement," he reveals. Lunar prepared her hair using Shu Uemura's Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil ($70) and allowed it to air-dry to preserve its integrity and keep it soft. After setting Lovato's hair, Lunar shaped it with a mix of gentle tension, a diffuser, and light definition creams to accentuate her texture without weighing it down. Lunar mentions his appreciation for Dyson's Supersonic Hair Dryer ($450) and its various attachments for easy styling. "My inspiration for Demi’s hair usually comes directly from her," Lunar states. "I tune into the vibe of what she’s wearing and how she feels each day. For this period, we’ve been embracing her natural texture as much as possible." He characterizes the vibe of Lovato's cover shoot as effortlessly strong and polished, ensuring that the hair has structure while remaining light and free wherever movement is needed. "It’s about enhancing her innate beauty without over-styling the hair," he concludes.

For the makeup, Loftjet aimed to achieve something natural yet elevated that complemented the shoot's beautiful surroundings. "I prepared Demi’s skin with La Mer’s Moisturizing Soft Cream ($200) and Laneige's Cream Skin Milky Toner ($36) to establish a smooth and well-moisturized base." To perfect Lovato's complexion, he utilized Make Up For Ever HD Skin Hydra Glow Foundation ($34) for a fresh and dimensional appearance. He finished the look with a swipe of Haus Labs PhD Hybrid Hydrated Tinted Lip Oil ($18), which he considers an essential element for almost every look he creates.

With Lovato's hair swept back, Lunar mentions that her second look was more sculpted and editorial. "After treating Demi's hair with the same nourishing oil, I applied a lightweight styling mousse at the roots for volume, then used a concentrator nozzle and round brush to add body and structure." Once dried, he refined the look with a soft wax and a detailing comb for a "clean and intentional" finish. "I love highlighting the complexion and blush when working with Demi," Loftjet notes. "We’re very deliberate with our color choices—shades that naturally complement her skin and enhance her undertones. Blush has become our signature; I apply it across her cheeks, onto the temples, and around the eye area for a seamless wash of color."

When crafting a natural, no-makeup makeup look like Lovato's, Loftjet advises to work in small, buildable layers, with a strong emphasis on proper skin preparation. "Adequate hydration underneath the makeup is essential for everything to blend seamlessly and achieve that soft, barely-there finish," he clarifies. "That damp preparation is what gives the complexion an authentic appearance instead of looking overly done."

"With Demi, my focus is always on accentuating what’s inherent," Lunar states. "It’s about respecting her natural hair texture, preserving the health of her strands, and creating looks that resonate with her current self. When the glam supports the artist's identity, everything else falls into place." Loftjet adds, "Working with the team is consistently an effortless and collaborative experience." For this shoot, he mentioned that they followed stylist Chris Horan’s vision and allowed the clothing to guide the overall tone. The intention for the makeup and hair was to remain purposefully understated. "Collaborating with Chris, Fitch, and Demi's nail artist Natalie Minerva is always a pleasure—they’re exceptionally talented, and we’re all fortunate to create alongside an artist like Demi."
