Gabbriette exchanged her concealer lips for an off-season combination that surprisingly suits Summer 2025.
Fans of the original cult classic I Know What You Did Last Summer might have eagerly anticipated the plot of its sequel, which premiered yesterday, but we were especially excited to see how the star-studded cast would appear on screen. The lineup featured Madelyn Cline, WWW cover star Chase Sui Wonders, and of course, Jennifer Love Hewitt, but the actress who truly caught our beauty-loving attention was Gabbriette—primarily due to her look that was distinctly different from her usual style. The ultimate internet cool girl made her second feature film appearance in the slasher as Tyler Trevino, a true crime podcaster engrossed in the massacre central to the 1997 film. While Tyler’s look was not drastically different from Gabbriette’s typical aesthetic (except for her blonde hair), what stood out most was her dark red lips—an obvious shift from her signature early 2000s concealer lip—and a trend we're observing gain traction among fashion enthusiasts this season.
Though considered "unseasonal," cool-toned makeup has never been more popular in the summer of 2025. From periwinkle eyeshadow to cherry red lips, the fashion world is embracing a winter-inspired color palette as temperatures soar—and this resonates well with the themes of the slasher film. “For Tyler’s makeup, I drew a lot of inspiration from ’90s films, capturing that cool-girl-meets-chaos vibe,” Gabbriette stated in a press release. “I usually stick with concealer and nude lips, so using this deeper red combination was certainly a change for me—but it really helped me immerse myself in the character.” This look was created using various MAC Cosmetics products.
To achieve Gabbriette's I Know What You Did Last Summer lip look, the first step was using MAC’s Lipglazer Glossy Liner in Root for Me, which formed the foundation by overlining her lips in a cool-toned brown, a perfect match for her multifaceted persona. Although her limited-edition kit is no longer available, Gabriette introduced a personalized lip kit with MAC last July that included another cool-toned neutral liner: MAC’s Lip Pencil in Stone. This new formula glides on effortlessly, providing a sleek, shiny line and preparing for a radiant red lip. While red can sometimes appear too festive, the brown base here makes her lips evoke “sizzling late summer” rather than “winter glam.”
To create her muted red color, Gabbriette and the film’s makeup artist, Caroline Olweny, used MACximal Silky Matte Lipstick in Go Retro, a pinky-ruby shade. This lipstick is praised for its buttery texture, excellent pigmentation, and buildable formula. Outside of the horror movie setting, this shade seems perfect for summer.
“Now this is the cherry on top,” Gabbriette continued. “We wanted her lips to appear a bit bloody, a little grungy, but still very wearable.” A layer of Lustreglass Sheer-Shine Lipstick in a deep, glossy red adds a alluring finish, transforming the look from a pretty summer pout to a sultry ’90s vibe. Its vampy shade provides a sheer yet buildable color with plenty of shine, making it a great option for an end-of-summer lip look that transitions smoothly into fall.
To enhance the depth further, the star applied additional strokes of the Lipglazer liner before finishing with a layer of MAC’s Squirt Plumping Gloss Stick in the nude-brown shade Simulation—the same hue from Gabbriette’s namesake lip kit. “It adds just the right touch of brown and shine,” she remarked. “It’s glossy, bold, and a bit messy … very Tyler.” Just one layer offers a gentle plump and nourishes your lips, thanks to a blend of shea butter, coconut, and avocado oil.
