The Key Wedding Planning Trends Poised to Dominate

Whether you have curated a Pinterest board since your middle school days or you’re recently engaged, planning a wedding undeniably presents a significant challenge. With countless decisions to make, both major and minor, and an abundance of inspiration online, it can be daunting to determine where to begin. Therefore, we’re seizing this moment to highlight the most prominent trends currently shaping the wedding and event planning landscape, naturally influenced by our fashion-centric perspective.

Having already detailed the key bridal fashion trends for brides in 2026, we are now expanding our focus to include aspects beyond attire. From the popular font appearing on stylish invitations to floral arrangements that serve as art pieces in their own right, these are all the components of a wedding weekend that are gaining traction today. While the wedding day remains central, multi-day celebrations show no signs of decreasing in popularity. Wedding and event planner Beth Helmstetter noted that she observes couples continuing to host weekend-long festivities but emphasizing locations and experiences that reflect their unique identities and passions. “Many couples are opting for more relaxed and less staged celebrations that encourage fun and promote intimacy over formality,” she explained.

Whether it’s a destination wedding or not, the emphasis is on the unexpected and distinctive in venue choices. Mindy Weiss, renowned for planning both Demi Lovato's and Hailee Steinfeld’s weddings this year, mentioned that several clients are seeking venues that allow for events to unfold over several days from Thursday to Sunday. “This provides a guest experience that they hope their loved ones have never encountered before. It might include golf tournaments, spa days, game festivals, pool gatherings, cooking lessons, and cocktail soirees. We’re not merely planning a wedding anymore,” she insisted. Weddings in 2026 are poised to become fully immersive experiences, beginning with personalized invitations to the parting gifts for guests, and every detail in between.

It’s clear that destination weddings continue to rise in popularity, but in 2026, couples looking to marry abroad are increasingly focusing on locations with authentic charm and breathtaking venues. Settings immersed in nature, featuring dramatic landscapes and stunning architecture, are quickly becoming essentials, whether that’s a limestone quarry in Menorca frequently used for weddings and fashion events or historic fincas like Sa Pedrissa in Mallorca boasting unspoiled views of the coastline. For specific locations, Tuscany remains a timeless favorite; however, Fora adviser Katherine Flynn noted that Mallorca, Puglia, and Todos Santos are swiftly becoming preferred wedding destinations as well, credited to their natural beauty, genuine charm, and boutique ambiance. “These locations perfectly align with the trend of transforming weddings into multi-day retreats for friends and family,” she continued. “Guests desire sunset dinners, local wines, and unique experiences. In Puglia, Masseria San Domenico exemplifies the region's rustic elegance, with historic farmhouses surrounded by olive gardens and exceptional local cuisine.” This five-star hotel hosted an exclusive event for J.Crew earlier this summer, illustrating the close connection between fashion and wedding planning.

While some venues are grand and dramatic, others lean towards a rustic and familiar sensibility. The upcoming trend in wedding venues? Ranches. “Remote and rugged is the new romantic,” expressed Sunna Yassin and Mollie Jones Hennes, co-founders of Bash Please. The duo, responsible for planning Alex Cooper’s much-discussed wedding last year, observed an increasing preference for private ranches, wineries, and architectural compounds that feel entirely off-grid. Weiss echoed this trend, noting that mountainous areas like Big Sky, Montana, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, are becoming increasingly popular. Hosting multi-day events in these locations allows couples to curate various guest activities, including horseback riding and customized cowboy hat stations.

As couples prioritize intimate and meaningful celebrations over extravagant productions, a resurgence of at-home weddings is evident—though these aren't simply backyard gatherings. “Whether it’s a ranch nestled in the foothills of Jackson Hole or a private villa in the South of France, hosting at ‘home’ has never felt more timely,” shared Jesse Tombs, owner and creative director of Jesse Tombs. “Home venues tell stories, and there’s an unparalleled intimacy in celebrating amongst landscapes of personal significance. This authenticity carries a richness, where every view holds history and emotion for all loved ones present.”

One prevalent term in wedding décor today is draping. “Drapery is a significant focus for 2026,” Weiss asserted. “Many of my clients desire draping that appears dripping, scrunched, and elegantly unkempt.” Regarding its application in décor, Yassin and Jones anticipated a use of sheer draping in innovative ways: “Framing nature rather than masking it, adding height without heaviness. Clients are seeking spaces that feel cinematic yet still breathable.” This trend aligns with the 1950s nostalgia currently emerging in bridal fashion. Draping adds a luxurious, timeless quality that remains fluid and unpretentious, and according to Helmstetter, it has transformed into its own
