I've crowned my Summer skirt—here's the champion.
When I set out to find my ideal summer skirt, my criteria were quite simple. I wanted it to be a 100% cotton midi. It needed to be versatile—capable of handling long walks. The fabric had to strike the right balance: not completely sheer, yet not overly heavy for warm weather. Additionally, the waistband had to be comfy and not dig into me. I desired a skirt that I could wear repeatedly, one suitable for various occasions—a basic piece I could easily slip on during hot days. I also wanted it to be affordably priced—something I wouldn't worry about sweating in or wearing frequently. I didn't want a piece that would make me anxious about sitting in the park or spilling food while out. Since I’ve been wearing the skirt I’m mentioning all summer, I can confidently say it meets all these criteria.
The Lowen Midi Skirt
(Image credit: Free People)I’ll be honest; I was initially gifted the $60 Lowen Midi Skirt, but I later bought it myself (and would purchase it again). I wear my black one so often that I own two of them (which I'm literally wearing right now), and I also have it in white.
For context, here are some situations where I've worn it: while working from home, at the office, running errands, taking long walks, and as a cover-up at the beach. I’ve dressed it up and down. It's truly been a versatile base I can pair with anything. I even went to the extent of wearing it on a steep hike upstate—and as someone who's notoriously afraid of bugs, I felt it protected my legs.
I sent the black version to one of my family group chats, calling it "the skirt I've been wearing nonstop this summer," which inspired my aunt to buy one. Is it groundbreaking? No, and that’s precisely why I love it. It’s one of my most dependable staples.

If you're unsure about sizing, I’d recommend sizing down—the skirt fits a bit loose in the waist.

Shop More Long Cotton Skirts One notable change in my wardrobe from summer 2024 to 2025 is that last summer I lived in mini swim skirts, while this year I’ve been drawn to long cotton skirts. Although the Lowen Midi Skirt has been my most worn, I’m also looking at options from brands like Brooke Callahan and Charlie Beads.
