5 Fall 2025 Trends That Who What Wear Editors Are Buying First
Following the conclusion of the fall/winter 2025 shows during the last fashion month, we made forecasts concerning the trends poised to influence fashion significantly. Several key themes emerged, such as furry outerwear and accessories, vibrant Technicolor hues, English countryside fashion, and sophisticated style codes. Many of these trends have already begun to appear in editorial shoots, but I’m also curious about how these trends will translate into shopping habits and personal styles. The street style at fashion month is typically where the season's most significant trends first emerge. To stay ahead, I asked the fashion editors at Who What Wear for their insights on the specific trends they intend to shop for first. Below, you’ll find the top editor-recommended trends to embrace for fall 2025, along with a selection of items you can begin to add to your shopping cart now.
**Peep-Toe Pumps**
"I was initially taken aback by the return of peep-toe pumps this year. They are shoes I had long considered out of style, and the early examples in the spring 2025 collections didn't convince me (yet). However, after observing how designers have updated this silhouette in innovative ways on the fall runways, I must say I'm changing my perspective. For instance, Tory Burch showcased pumps with an asymmetrical cutout at the big toe, which gives the trend a distinctly 2025 vibe rather than a throwback to 2012. At Miu Miu, the models paired colorful socks with peep-toe pumps, and I’ve already noted that styling tip to try with skirts and oversized coats next season. I’m certain this will be the first trend I invest in for fall, as new shoes can instantly refresh my outfits—no need to wait for cooler weather to debut them."
**Faux Fur**
"The fall/winter 2025 runways featured a plethora of faux-fur accents from designers such as Prada, Miu Miu, Valentino, Bally, Conner Ives, Blumarine, Simone Rocha, and Nicklas Skovgaard. While a classic black wool coat will always be a must-have in my winter wardrobe, I'm eager to incorporate a more playful statement piece. I appreciate how faux fur can instantly enhance any outfit. I can envision wearing it over a turtleneck or cashmere sweater paired with a miniskirt, tights, and kitten heels or knee-high boots."
**Fair Isle Knits**
"Few things signal fall like a Fair Isle sweater. This trend is remarkably timeless and has never truly gone out of style since it first emerged. As soon as the temperatures drop, I will be inspired by Moncler Grenoble's fall 2025 runway by layering my Fair Isle knits and adding faux-fur accessories. All I need is a cozy log cabin to complete the vibe!"
**Big Coats**
"I'm planning to rely heavily on 'the big coat,' which is essentially one extra-long, ultra-oversized coat that can cover whatever I wear underneath. Just add a few accessories, like a sweater tied around my waist or a stylish hat or bag, and my outfit is effortlessly complete every day. I often find dressing for colder seasons challenging because of the effort needed to layer and coordinate with outerwear. This way, the coat is the only consideration. Although this styling approach isn’t particularly new for fall and winter, I noticed it at several of my favorite shows in New York, including Khaite, Fforme, and TWP, and it reminded me of its simple elegance."
**Fringe**
"Growing up as a lifelong New Yorker, I didn't wear fringe much, but that’s part of its allure for me. I’ve always connected fringe-decorated jackets, bags, and shoes with the countryside and music festivals, which didn’t seem suitable for the subway. Now, I'm realizing that this contrast adds to the appeal and draws me to this aesthetic. I have to credit Alessandro Michele's Nellcôte bag—it's a favorite among celebrities, and I’m obsessed with it. The studded details opened my eyes to the texture and fabric strands flowing from the straps and sides. But it goes beyond this bag; fringe touches are appearing all over the runways, signaling a potential bohemian revival that hasn’t fully materialized yet. I plan to emulate the bag's style, combining some punk-inspired pieces like studs and grommets with a vintage fringe jacket I was previously too intimidated to wear."
