I'm a Fashion Editor—6 Fall Jacket Trends I'm Interested in for 2025 and 6 I'm Passing On
I understand, I understand—summer isn’t finished yet, but as someone who loves outerwear, I can’t hold back any longer from discussing which jacket trends will be in vogue this fall and which will fall by the wayside. I shared my predictions back in March when the fall/winter 2025 collections were revealed in New York, Milan, London, Paris, and other locations. Now that we’re on the brink of fall, it’s clearer which styles are really going to last. Drawing from fashion trends observed during Copenhagen's recent fashion week, where attendees donned their new-season jackets; the way New Yorkers are already layering lightweight pieces over black activewear and jeans; and the fall purchases being showcased on Instagram and TikTok, I’ve pinpointed six fall jacket trends worth investing in and six to avoid. As a preview, funnel-neck leather bomber jackets are set to replace leather moto jackets. Continue reading to discover all you need to know about stylish outerwear for fall 2025.

When considering leather jackets for fall, there are various styles to desire, but the funnel-neck leather bomber jacket tops the list. This silhouette combines sleekness with a relaxed fit. It can elevate tailored trousers and enhance a simple outfit of jeans, loafers, and a white t-shirt.

- **ZARA** Faux Leather Cropped Jacket
- **MANGO** Perkins Collar Texture Jacket
- **Helsa** The Oversized Leather Bomber
- **Magda Butrym** Oversized Leather Bomber Jacket

Buy: Fringe Jackets**
Fringe jackets are rapidly becoming the choice for those wanting a stylish and trendy look with little effort. I’ve seen everything from boxy leather styles to oversized suede options. Some of my favorites are vintage, but if sourcing one proves difficult, I recommend checking what Madewell and Re/Done offer. When styling, take cues from fashion influencers in NYC who pair them with straight-leg jeans and flip-flops instead of bootcut jeans and cowboy boots, which can make the jacket appear costume-like.

- **BLANKNYC** Faux Suede Fringe Jacket
- **Madewell** Fringe Shirt-Jacket in Suede
- **Guest In Residence** Western Fringe Jacket
- **RE/DONE** Suede Fringe Jacket
**Skip: Cropped Denim Jackets
Buy: Technical Jackets**
In August 2024, senior fashion editor Eliza Huber highlighted the sporty-jacket trend after seeing it in The Row, Tory Burch, and Proenza Schouler's spring/summer 2024 collections. Now, more than a year later, this outerwear trend is prevalent among people in London, Paris, and L.A., as well as in new collections from Toteme, Massimo Dutti, Zara, and Uniqlo. For those unfamiliar with this style, sporty jackets are generally crafted from technical fabrics and feature an anorak or zip-up design. Instead of being paired with casual outfits, they are now being dressed up with silk pants, tailored trousers, and maxi skirts for a chic and unexpected twist.
Shop the trend:
- **Uniqlo** UV Protection Pocketable Parka
- **Massimo Dutti** Technical Fabric Sweatshirt With Zip Detail
- **TOTEME** Organic Cotton-Blend Jacket
- **Zw Collection** Pocket Puffer Jacket
**Skip: Cape Coats
Buy: Ponchos**
If you had told me ponchos would make a comeback in 2025, I’d have been skeptical; however, after seeing the sleeveless piece in Proenza Schouler's F/W 25 collection and recently on Bella Hadid, I’ve changed my stance. I’m now fully on board and feel the need for a poncho in my wardrobe immediately. Its soft, unstructured style allows it to drape beautifully over the body, adding a hint of elegance. I’m looking at brands like COS and J.Crew for casual options and The Row and Scanlan Theodore for more upscale choices.
Shop the trend:
- **J.Crew** Cashmere-Wool Blend Poncho
- **Scanlan Theodore** Brushed Fringed Poncho
- **COS** Double-Faced Wool Scarf Poncho
- **The Row** Cedar Top in Silk and Viscose
**Skip: Fur Jackets
Buy: Faux-Fur Jackets**
Faux fur was a major presence on the fall/winter 2025 runways. While I can’t say for certain which collections used real fur (as brands like Gucci, Versace, Stella McCartney, and Michael Kors have committed to ethical alternatives), here at Who What Wear, we exclusively endorse faux fur. It’s 2025, and with a plethora of sustainable options available
