I tried on more than 50 pairs of jeans for the autumn season—these 7 are truly deserving of the buzz.
Welcome to The Great Try-On. With autumn fully upon us, we took the chance to test out some of the best new arrivals from our favorite brands, capturing the experience along the way. We believe that the most effective way to shop online is to first see an item in real life and read honest reviews about fit, style, and quality. We hope our try-ons will guide you to your most successful purchases of the year. As a self-proclaimed denim enthusiast, I couldn't help but feel excited when given the opportunity to try on the best jeans currently available. My love for denim kicked off years ago with the iconic Topshop Joni jeans. Although I’ve moved on from the skinny-jean phase, my passion for denim remains steadfast—you will hardly see me in anything else, whether at work, out for dinner, or just running errands.
So, what keeps me captivated? Ever since jeans evolved from being skin-tight to more relaxed fits, I've come to value them for what they truly are: the most versatile trousers in my closet. Despite their sometimes negative reputation, the right pair can be incredibly comfortable, endlessly wearable, and adaptable to nearly any occasion (weddings excluded—though I might be tempted). With over 20 pairs already in my collection, the excitement of trying on a new style has yet to fade.
For my denim exploration, I left no option unconsidered. H&M, Zara, and COS provided affordable choices that nailed the essentials with sharp cuts, versatile washes, and contemporary silhouettes. Then I moved on to the premium brands—Reformation, Agolde, and Frame—where I found high-quality styles aimed to last for years. As for the shapes, I tried them all: 90s-style straight legs, roomy wide-legs, and casual baggy cuts. It’s safe to say that every wash was tested.
So, which pairs made the final selection? Continue reading to see my thoughts on the best jeans for Autumn 2025, as examined and reviewed by an editor.
1. H&M Wide-Leg Jeans
I must admit—in my lengthy romance with denim, H&M was a brand I often overlooked. But when I realized that nearly all of my stylish colleagues owned a pair of H&M jeans, I knew it was time to take a closer look. I picked out a few styles, but this wide-leg pair immediately captured my attention.
From the moment I wore them, I was convinced. The fit is ideal: relaxed but not sloppy, with a wide-leg shape that feels modern and effortless. The denim has just the right amount of structure, and the light wash gives them a high-quality feel that could easily be mistaken for designer. It’s no surprise the fashion community loves them—these are the jeans I will wear repeatedly, and no one would ever guess they're from the high street.
Additionally, they’re available in a variety of colors, allowing you to refresh your denim collection without overspending. Aside from this mid-blue wash, I noticed options in black, white, and darker indigo shades. Each color offers a slightly different vibe: the blue wash feels relaxed and versatile, while the darker shades provide a more polished appearance, and the black or white options are excellent for dressing up slightly. The value for money here is substantial—these are jeans you'll want in more than one color.
2. COS Bay Jeans
While the COS Column jeans have always been a favorite of mine, I typically lean towards more relaxed fits. So when I discovered the COS Bay jeans, I knew I had found the one. Technically classified as “barrel-leg,” the shape is subtle—appearing more like a wide-leg-baggy hybrid—and the result is both flattering and extremely comfortable. To my surprise, they hit perfectly at the ankle on my 5'2" frame (a rare win for petites).
Endorsed by our Shopping Editor, Florrie, the Bay jeans fulfill every requirement. They come in various shades—from rich brown to crisp white to a vintage light blue wash—making them a versatile, mid-priced denim option worth considering. If you're seeking a fresh take on classic wide-legs, look no further.
3. Agolde '90s Jean
I must admit, despite six years in the fashion industry, I had never worn a pair of Agolde jeans. I know—shocking. Determined to do my research thoroughly, I tried on five of the brand’s best-sellers. While each had its strengths, I ultimately fell for one: the '90s jeans.
I’ll be honest, I’m not typically a fan of straight-leg fits, but in an effort to channel that iconic Rachel Green look, I decided it was time to expand my denim horizons. I did not regret it. The fit is exactly what you look for in a straight leg—slouchy but not shapeless, structured yet comfortable. They sit high on the waist,
