The Strategy NYC Fashion Enthusiasts Are Employing to Elevate "Plain" Jeans-and-Tee Ensembles for a Stylish Fall Look
As fall approaches, it’s time to consider how to shift our summer wardrobes into the new season. Typically, this involves layering a blazer or bomber jacket over our go-to jeans and t-shirt outfits. However, for fall 2025, there's a fresh outerwear trend emerging as a strong alternative. Recently, Jennifer Lawrence donned one for dinner in New York City, adding to the buzz around this somewhat polarizing piece. What is it? A fur shawl. Although fur shawls may not be the conventional choice for the classic jeans and t-shirt combo we cherish, after seeing how Lawrence styled it, I’m inclined to embrace this twist and give the stylish trio a try.
Specifically, Lawrence opted for a short black fur shawl, pairing it with a fitted black t-shirt from The Row and wide-leg drawstring jeans by La Ligne (which she had worn more casually earlier in the day with Adidas Superstars and a vintage Fendi bag). For dinner, she picked her beloved $33,000 The Row Lady Bag (often seen with Ashley Olsen) and switched to flat toe-loop sandals. Voilà! A refreshingly chic jeans-and-tee look was created.
Since we know that Lawrence is one of New York's most influential fashion figures, it’s no surprise that fur shawls are likely to become ubiquitous, from the East Village to the Upper West Side. She has that much influence. Additionally, given the number of fur shawls showcased on the F/W 25 runways last season—by brands like Miu Miu, Khaite, Prada, Magda Butrym, and others—the trend is bound to expand beyond New York and into various fashion capitals.
