When I want to evoke the essence of a contemporary Christine Daaé, I turn to this airy, French fragrance.

Throughout my career as a beauty editor, there have been several fragrance brands I keep returning to, with Diptyque consistently at the forefront. The brand was already a favorite of mine long before I took on my current role, and its perfumes are my preferred choice whenever I'm looking to add a whimsical element to my daily routine. My fondness for Diptyque also extends to its diffusers, body lotions, and candles, but I always ensure that my vanity has space to showcase at least one of the brand's fragrances at all times. When I had the opportunity to try Lazulio Eau de Parfum, the latest addition to its Les Essences de Diptyque collection, prior to its retail release, I eagerly accepted. Over a span of four weeks, I wore the scent without pause, receiving countless compliments from strangers who were curious about it. Below, I am sharing everything noteworthy about this fragrance, including insights from its creators, my initial impressions, and my formal review.

Upon observing the perfume without any prior context, newcomers may first notice the peacock-inspired design on the bottle. However, the creator of this new fragrance, Master Perfumer Quentin Bisch, explains that the inspiration from this stunning bird goes beyond just the design on the bottle. "The inspiration was the peacock feather, a natural masterpiece of beauty, delicacy, and contrast," Bisch states. His goal was to capture the essence of being surrounded by peacocks and the vibrant colors of their feathers. "I aimed to convey in a fragrance the emotional impact one experiences when witnessing this natural wonder: the shimmering blues and greens, vivid yellows, and rich browns, along with the tactile sensation of its caress." This has led to a new entry in Les Essences de Diptyque, interpreting the magical and splendid qualities of the peacock feather that "translates its captivating allure into scent, both visually and emotionally." To replicate the delicate nature and vivid colors of the peacock feather, the fragrance employs a distinct mix of notes. Bisch faced the challenge of transforming a visual and tactile concept into an olfactory experience. "I needed to create an accord that was radiant and sparkling, reflecting the feather's brilliance, while also incorporating more textured and warm materials, like silky down," Bisch explains. He achieved this by selecting crisp, tangy rhubarb for its fluorescent green burst, and soft, balsamic benzoin to "add a powdery quality and diffuse a golden light." This duality allowed him to echo the feather's softness and lightness while ensuring depth and structure.

Lazulio embodies the brilliance and softness of the peacock feather while remaining true to Diptyque’s artistic and poetic essence. "It is another chapter, a new story, in this collection of nature’s treasures," remarks Quentin Bisch, Master Perfumer behind Lazulio. Staying true to my role as a beauty editor, I was also curious about the beautiful bottle housing the fragrance, and Bisch provided the answers I've sought since unboxing it. The artist responsible for the feather-like strokes on the bottle is Irish architect Nigel Peake, whose striking illustrations lend a memorable visual appeal to the perfume. "Nigel Peake transformed Lazulio’s concept into a graphic play of lines and tones that reflect the movement of the feather," Bisch continues. "His artwork captures the iridescence and rhythm of the peacock feather, much like the fragrance captures its texture and brilliance." The front of the bottle showcases layers of brush strokes that mimic the appearance of a peacock feather, while the back features raised glass in a similar design. The exquisite box the perfume comes in also showcases a comparable look, adorned with vibrant colors. "The blue tones and fluid yet precise motifs serve as visual counterparts to Lazulio’s airy but structured olfactory framework. The iconic oval of Diptyque, etched on the glass, provides a glimpse into its natural beauty," Bisch remarks. There's no doubt that the packaging can effortlessly bring a chic touch to any space when displayed alongside its fragrant contents.

Lazulio Eau de Parfum is characterized as a woody amber scent highlighted by vibrant colors. Below, Bisch details its luminous blend of notes.

      - **Top:** "The tangy and crunchy note of rhubarb provides a striking, luminous, green opening."

      - **Middle:** "A gentle touch of rose adds elegance and nuance, harmonizing the overall composition."

      - **Bottom:** "Laotian benzoin, with its soft, balsamic, golden aspects, pairs with Haitian vetiver, vibrant with woody and citrus notes. Together, these elements embody the contrasts of the peacock feather: brilliance, color, and enveloping softness."
