Fashionable New Yorkers are sporting this wonderfully quirky '90s skirt trend all over this fall.
Recently, I've found myself quite fascinated with anything that sparkles, and Sandy Liang is the reason behind it. Often, Liang is responsible for my credit card woes, particularly right now. During a visit to the designer's shop on Orchard last week, I came across the Pinkie, a light-pink metallic pleated skirt hanging on a rack. Since then, it has been on my mind constantly.

However, the way Liang styled the skirt completely shifted my viewpoint. The model wore open-toed sandals, which I have put away for the season, but she also had on an ideal pink sweater layered over a collared shirt. From the knees up, this was a style I wished to adopt for the entire season. It made me appreciate how a little sparkle can elevate a typical fall outfit. The mix of contrasting elements and textures complements each other beautifully without resembling something from a holiday catalog. The metallic aspect adds an unexpected twist to the look while transforming a standard sweater-and-shirt combination, which can be a bit formal, into something quite playful. This aesthetic also brings to mind numerous '90s Miu Miu runway looks. A metallic, shimmery skirt immediately exudes a chic vibe reminiscent of past decades. I've noticed this trend around New York, with people wearing metallic pleated skirts like Liang's or other glittery or sequined styles, paired with chunky sweaters and scarves or leather jackets. It's clearly going to become my go-to fall outfit from now on.
