Seen in New York: The Winter 2025 Styles That It Girls Are Rocking Everywhere
One of the wonderful aspects of New York is how effortless it is to find fashion inspiration. You don’t need to be well-informed or work in the fashion industry to discover it. There’s no necessity to keep up with the latest runway shows or what the trendiest celebrities are donning. All it takes is stepping outside to observe what everyday people are wearing at a nearby shop or on the subway. Personally, I find this the best way to push myself out of my comfort zone and learn new styling techniques. Recently, I went through my closet and now feel somewhat stuck when it comes to getting dressed, especially with the sudden shift to winter. To combat this, I’ve been taking longer walks and making fashion observations along the way.
Before long, I noticed five winter trends that everyone stylish seems to be wearing. Each outfit that caught my attention and made me do a double take showcased one (or more!) of the following styles. I strongly believe we should incorporate these trends into our winter wardrobes immediately for looks that feel fresh yet are easy to replicate and wear each season.
**Layered Shirts**
Wearing a long-sleeve shirt under a short-sleeve tee evokes a sense of nostalgia. For me, it brings back memories of the 2000s Abercrombie & Fitch era. However, this style has received a significant update and serves as an excellent way to layer without feeling overly bulky. Furthermore, Comme des Garçons has famously showcased layered shirts and tees on the runway for years, making this a high-fashion essential that retains a playful, youthful edge.
**Fur-Trimmed Coats**
New Yorkers will tell you that winter is the best season to flaunt their impressive coat collections. There are few things more spectacular—or extensive—than a true New Yorker’s obsession with outerwear. Yet, when the coat overshadows the outfit beneath, it essentially becomes the outfit. This season, fur-trimmed coats with soft details, like those seen on Arghan and Penny Lane, seem to be particularly popular. These coats make a bold statement while also being incredibly cozy.
**Funky Jeans**
There is much chatter and confusion regarding the potential return of skinny jeans. While I did notice some individuals wearing tighter jeans, the more noticeable trend was the presence of funky jeans overall. Think denim adorned with tie-dye, prints, patterns, or patches across the front. It’s a fantastic way to add personality to your look that won’t be subdued by layers of sweaters.
**Camouflage**
The most surprising trend I observed among trendy New Yorkers was camouflage. This likely relates to how camouflage is often linked to a vibe that feels entirely distinct from the city’s atmosphere, which isn't typically associated with the Big Apple. This subversive appeal makes camouflage an interesting choice. It serves as a refreshing print to layer with when you want a change from animal print or polka dots.
**Patent-Leather Boots**
Any New Yorker will affirm that it is always boot season. However, colder weather makes it an opportunity to wear items like patent-leather boots, which can feel too hot in the summer. These boots add undeniable sleekness and allure to any outfit, making it easier to wear a long dress without stockings. They provide warmth while ensuring your legs look absolutely stunning.
