Seen in New York: The Winter 2025 Styles That It Girls Are Sporting Everywhere

      One of the best aspects of New York is how effortlessly it provides fashion inspiration. You don’t need to be connected or part of the fashion industry to find it. There’s no requirement to stay updated on the latest runway shows or the outfits of the trendiest celebrities. All that’s necessary is to step outside and observe what everyday people wear at a corner store or on the subway. This has become my favorite method for stepping outside my comfort zone and discovering new ways to style my outfits. Recently, after a closet clean-out, I’ve found myself in a bit of a dressing rut, particularly with the sudden shift to winter. I’ve started taking longer walks, observing fashion trends as I go.

      I quickly spotted five winter trends that many stylish people in the city seem to embrace. Each outfit that caught my attention featured one (or more) of the trends listed below.       There’s a nostalgic charm in wearing a long-sleeve shirt beneath a short-sleeve tee. For me, it recalls the Abercrombie & Fitch era of the 2000s. However, this look has received a significant upgrade recently, offering an ideal way to layer without adding too much bulk. Moreover, Comme des Garçons has showcased layered shirts and tees on runways for years, establishing it as a high-fashion staple that retains a playful spirit.

      Anyone in New York will tell you that winter is prime time to showcase an impressive collection of coats. There's something remarkably grand—almost limitless—about a true New Yorker’s passion for outerwear. However, when a coat obscures the outfit beneath, it becomes the outfit itself. This season, it seems everyone's embracing fur-trimmed coats with soft details, like those seen on the Arghan and Penny Lane styles. They attract attention while ensuring coziness.

      **Funky Jeans**

      There's justified excitement and confusion surrounding the rumored comeback of skinny jeans. While I did notice plenty of people in tighter jeans, the more prominent denim trend seems to be funky jeans overall. Think jeans adorned with tie-dye, prints, patterns, or even patches scattered across the front. It’s a fun way to wear trousers with a bit more flair, adding visual interest that won’t get lost beneath layers of sweaters.

      **Camouflage**

      Surprisingly, I spotted many stylish individuals in New York wearing camouflage. This likely stems from the fact that camo is often associated with a vibe distinctly different from what one typically expects in the city. It defies the usual associations with the Big Apple, which adds to its alluring subversiveness. It's a playful print to incorporate when you want a break from animal prints and polka dots.

      **Patent-Leather Boots**

      Any New Yorker will tell you that boot season is perpetual. However, with colder temperatures, you can opt for patent-leather boots, which are often too warm for summer wear. They undeniably add sleek sex appeal to any ensemble and allow for the ease of wearing a longer dress without stockings. They will keep your legs warm while simultaneously making them look stunning.
