Forget the dull black coats—here's what I choose to wear instead.

Hello WWW friends! It has been a pleasure writing this Personal Shopping column for you each month since the beginning of the year, but this will be my final entry. We will soon have a new Editor in Chief taking over as I transition to the role of Managing Director for both Who What Wear and Marie Claire in the UK. I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing my genuine recommendations and little obsessions with you regularly. We’ve discussed everything from the coziest underwear to the most fabulous evening dresses, and this month includes a few outstanding pieces for your practical, everyday wardrobe. First off, I’ve never been one to blend in with the typical array of black coats that appear every winter (how boring!), so instead, keep reading for a statement coat that surprisingly complements every outfit. Secondly, there’s nothing quite like a piece of jewellery that draws compliments for a lifetime and never goes out of style—check out my top choice below. I'll also address one of your pressing style inquiries. As always, you can still find me at @hannahalmassi. Farewell and thank you for your readership! x

Here’s What I’m Excited About This Month:

      1. I CAN'T STOP RAVING ABOUT: CARTIER'S LOVE COLLECTION

I have a significant birthday approaching at the end of the year, and I know exactly what I want, even if I need to treat myself to get it: Cartier’s Love collection. This classic range, first launched in 1969 with its instantly recognizable screw motif and fixtures, is worn by virtually every editor, stylist, and insider—in fact, we’ve detailed the history of the Love collection here. What’s particularly thrilling right now is that there are brand-new additions to the Love family. Introducing Unlimited: featuring a subtly chic ridged effect, Unlimited bracelets are especially clever as they twist and move differently from the original bangles. Additionally, they can be combined to create longer, wrap-around bracelets. You can mix finishes, like white and yellow gold, or stick to one metal. My preference? I like to pair all yellow-gold pieces with varying textures to achieve a thoughtful yet not overly polished look—like combining a brushed metal with a shiny or ridged piece. Family members—take note!

      2. UNDER THE RADAR: LEOPARD PRINT COATS

I once owned a black coat, and it drove me crazy with boredom. For as long as I can remember, I’ve sought alternatives that add a bit of excitement to the dreariest months. Initially, my search led me to thrift and vintage shops, scouring for unique secondhand finds, faux-fur-trimmed leather coats, eccentric shearling pieces, or pink shantung silk opera coats—nothing subtle at all. Nowadays, I’ve found an option that delivers statement-making drama while seamlessly pairing with various outfits, from casual to dressy: leopard print. The gateway coat was Rixo’s Milly, a style I’ve worn repeatedly since its debut autumn. The cut works well with many silhouettes and bases (from silky slips to jeans and sweaters) and the fabric ages beautifully. I’ve recently spotted new styles from Prada and Queens of Archive, and honestly, if I wear something a lot, I’m never against purchasing multiple versions that provide a little variation. Pro tip: Always look for leopard print that feels more random and less repetitive, as it will appear more luxe.

      3. ASK HANNAH ANYTHING (about style)

“Any bag ideas to buy secondhand?”

Hannah responds: Alright, reader, I appreciate you asking this! As long as you’re using a reputable source with authentication, considering a designer handbag secondhand is always a great idea. For two reasons: because styles often come back into fashion (so whether you catch that trend curve early or late, you’ll be pleased with yourself for acquiring a popular item at a more affordable price—I managed to do this with a gold Fendi Baguette!), and it can also be a way to commit on a smaller scale to such a substantial purchase. If you’re searching for nostalgic styles that are back in vogue, look for: Fendi’s original Spy styles, any Prada designs (as all of their handbag styles endure), ‘00s classics like Mulberry’s Roxanne or Chloé’s Paddington, and the Balenciaga City. If you want a pre-loved version of a newer style, try searching with spelling mistakes to unveil gems that others may not have discovered yet.
