New Year, New Me: 6 Items I Won't Be Purchasing in 2026
Twenty-twenty-six has just begun, which means the countdown to achieving all those resolutions we noted down has officially started. While we technically have a whole year, if we don't begin in early January, will we ever really get started? With that in mind, there's one objective I'm addressing directly (well, one I'm comfortable sharing publicly, at least), and that’s to declutter and optimize my closet. Not only have I made significant progress in cleaning it out, but I’m also taking notes on what I've accumulated too much of, what I hardly used, and what I'm lacking. Using this information, I’ve created a "don't buy" list of pieces I clearly do not need, along with a complementary list of items I should be investing in (selectively). Below are both categories, along with some of my approved items for shopping, which may inspire your own upcoming wardrobe refresh for the year ahead!
No More: White Tees
Instead: Blouses and Tops
I already have too many white T-shirts, and to elevate my style, I’d really like to move away from them and start wearing more blouses and tops that enhance my appearance.

ZARA
Pleated Poplin Shirt
Reformation
Mikayla Knit Top
Kallmeyer
Lilette 3/4 Sleeve Button Down
No More: Mini Bags
Instead: Practical Everyday Bags
I still find mini bags charming, but I’ve collected too many of them. While I love them, they’re only suitable for dinners and events, as they aren't practical for daily use. Instead, I want to invest in one or two functional bags that I can use throughout the day and weekend.

Olivia Medium Suede Tote
LIFFNER
Buckled Croc-Effect Glossed-Leather Bucket Bag
No More: Athletic Sets
Instead: Separates for Styling
As alluring as it is to grab the latest sports bra and leggings set, my athleticwear drawer is already overflowing, and honestly, I tend to wear my favorite black leggings most days. Rather than more sets, I’m looking for cute pieces to supplement them, like fleeces, henleys, windbreakers, sneakers, or socks.

No More: Jeans
Instead: Versatile Pants
Similar to the white T-shirt issue, I already have an abundance of denim and am trying to rely less on those classic basics. While I will always be a blue-jeans person, I'm starting to appreciate the allure of a polished pair of grown-up pants or even an elastic waist option for more casual days.

The Pop Simple Pants
ZARA
Pleated Striped Balloon Pants
No More: Dainty Jewelry
Instead: Statement Pieces
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not parting with my classic pieces, nor do I plan to stop wearing them, but they now hold more sentimental value than style. This year, I want to acquire a few statement items, like a tassel necklace and an oversized cuff that make a bolder impression while dressing.
LE SUNDIAL
Venice Opera Tasseled Carnelian and Silver Necklace
Heaven Mayhem
Matilde Cuff
Lié Studio
Exclusive Coco Gold Vermeil Onyx Earrings
MANGO
Fringed Bead Necklace
No More: Basic Sweaters
Instead: Polished Cardigans
If I told you how many black and gray, basic crewneck sweaters I've cleared from my collection, you'd be shocked. My cozy knits during the colder months have served me well, but it’s time to elevate my wardrobe with more visually appealing cardigans.
