I was browsing through TikTok when I stumbled upon a video on my For You page titled, “If you love Paloma Wool, you’ll love…” As I continued watching, I discovered Permanent Vacation, a burgeoning Australian brand from Melbourne, established by Claire Louise Smith. It quickly became a personal favorite because I associate it with “artful minimalism.” With their new collection launching today, I recently visited their showroom for a preview. When I inquired with the PR team about how they would characterize Permanent Vacation, they described it as “performance-inspired” and likened it to “Prada Sport,” which felt very accurate. As a fashion enthusiast, I’ve spent considerable time on resale sites searching for “Prada Sport,” which explains my attraction to this brand.
The aesthetic is quite similar: minimalistic and understated; it embodies the signature '90s minimalism with a subtle quirky twist. The garments are streamlined yet technical, crafted from a limited color palette using materials sourced from Japan. Each piece has a unique element while remaining easy to wear and timeless. The latest capsule, titled Slow Dance, is described as “a series of garments built around tension and release,” furthering the brand’s foundational and focused design approach.
Among my favorites are the coordinating recycled nylon Refract Singlet and Refract Skirt sets, available in Slate, Tangerine, and Lilac, as well as the Orbit Dress and Debut Skirt. It's also worth noting that the line operates on a project-based model instead of a conventional seasonal schedule. They release curated edits in limited quantities, producing only to fulfill demand, ensuring each project is available until sold out.
