The Highlight of the NBA This Season? Tyrese Haliburton's Sideline Outfits
In today's world, sports have evolved beyond just the action that occurs on the court, field, or track. Much of the excitement surrounding athletes happens even before their events, as they arrive at their venues displaying their latest fashion choices. In basketball, this is known as a tunnel 'fit; in Formula One, it's a paddock 'fit. What athletes choose to wear when they're not in their uniforms holds significance, especially for fans who may never have the chance to interact with their idols. Clothing serves as a means of expression—a glimpse into the personality and beliefs of your favorite athlete. This is the essence of Go Sports. While we certainly pay attention to game statistics, results of Free Practice 1 (even at 3 a.m.), and intense rivalries, we also recognize the importance of sports fashion. We aren't shy about admitting it. During the last season, when Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers faced off against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, a significant moment in basketball history unfolded, though perhaps not as you might expect. Ultimately, the Thunder clinched the championship trophy, celebrated with a parade, and could proudly call themselves NBA Champions, but it was the Pacers who wrote an inspiring underdog narrative throughout their playoff journey, demonstrating determination, resilience, and a “we before me” mentality that will be remembered in sports history. Unfortunately, disaster struck. With 4:55 remaining in the first quarter, after sinking three three-pointers, Haliburton, the star point guard for the Pacers, suffered a torn right Achilles tendon following a pre-existing strain from Game 5 of the series. His teammates fought valiantly, but without his guidance and vital contributions, the Thunder triumphed with a score of 103 to 91.
As a Pacers supporter (something I perhaps shouldn't openly admit given my location), I felt crushed. We all did. Since then, watching the NBA has been a different experience for me. I still support my team, but Haliburton's absence diminishes the thrill. There is, however, a silver lining for someone who is equally invested in the action on the court as in the fashion off it. Yes, I'm referring to clothing, and no one in the NBA does it better than Haliburton.
As the 2026 season is wrapping up soon, the Pacers have faced challenges this year due to multiple player injuries, including Haliburton's. I've managed to catch most of their games, which will amount to 82 by the end of the regular season. The point guard has been present for the majority, and almost always, he’s sporting a stylish outfit. While many think of fashion in the NBA and first envision Shai Gilgeous-Alexander—rightfully so—he isn't the only one with an eye for style. In fact, many players in the league have displayed some interest in fashion, but for me, Haliburton will always hold the top spot, even from the sidelines, where he supports a team that was close to achieving what nearly every sports commentator deemed impossible back in 2025.
Haliburton's injury marked the beginning of a rebuilding phase for the Pacers, which every sports fan understands can make supporting a team challenging. It’s enjoyable to see your team win, but significantly less enjoyable to watch them struggle. Despite this, one aspect of game day that has continually entertained me this season is Haliburton’s sideline outfits. "Gram gon have to see a lot of fits this year," he shared on Instagram in November 2025 after the 2026 season commenced, showcasing a slideshow of the outfits he had already worn. Think grandpa sweaters in soft colors layered over shirts and ties, paired with sport coats reminiscent of liberal arts professors, denim jeans, and vintage Prada loafers. As the season progressed, he continued to update his grid with new sideline looks. Standouts included a leather bomber jacket with a plaid tie, light-wash jeans, and The Row's trendy eel-leather loafers; a Carhartt Canadian tuxedo with sand-colored suede Dr. Martens; and camouflage pants styled with his signature Puma basketball shoes in baby pink.
In a league filled with players striving to stand out through their wardrobes, Haliburton’s unique style is remarkable. He isn’t afraid to take risks, experimenting with varied aesthetics and brands, and bringing vintage flair to the tunnel. "I'm a Grailed demon," the Iowa State University graduate stated in a TikTok video about his fashion sense from 2024. "I be on Grailed looking for everything," he added, referring to the online marketplace that specializes in rare vintage and deadstock sneakers. In that same video, he reflected on the shift in his fashion choices that occurred in recent seasons, especially after moving to Indianapolis. (Haliburton was drafted to the Sacramento Kings in 2020 but was traded
