Attention fans of The Handmaid's Tale! The Testaments, the sequel derived from Margaret Atwood's novel set in the aftermath of the original narrative, is set to premiere on Hulu on April 8, and it's just as eerie and impactful! Featuring newcomers Chase Infiniti (the emerging star from One Battle After Another) and Lucy Halliday, the dystopian series revolves around two teenagers, Agnes and Daisy, who cultivate a friendship at an elite preparatory school in Gilead that instructs young girls on becoming submissive wives—a bond that will undeniably alter their futures. After promotional events in Paris and London, the show concluded its global press tour in Los Angeles with a lavish premiere featuring a purple carpet and students from Aunt Lydia's school. Before the celebration began, series regular Mabel Li—who portrays Aunt Vidala, a literary and harsh authority figure training the girls to embrace Gilead's oppressive ideologies—opened her getting-ready suite to Who What Wear for an exclusive glimpse at her simply stunning Givenchy ensemble.

First off, what was the vision/mood that you and your stylist Enrique Melendez had for the Los Angeles premiere of The Testaments? My mood board was characterized by high femininity, romantic shapes, and vibrant colors. I felt like I had been wearing a lot of black on the red carpet lately, but the joke’s on me! When we tried on this exquisite, elegant Givenchy dress that fit perfectly, we just knew it was the right choice. It radiates effortless glamour. I simply love wearing black—what can I say?

Can you describe the look you ultimately chose? What made it stand out from other options? We selected a Givenchy gown that offered an excellent balance of clean lines and an elegant silhouette while also being a bit sexy with its open back. The silky fabric and the dress's cut are incredibly flattering to the body, and it was light and comfortable to wear, which is definitely a bonus. How did it feel when you first tried it on? The fact that it fit perfectly even before tailoring was a clear indication that this was the correct choice! I felt like myself but elevated.

Are there any favorite details you’d like to highlight? I adore the fitted bodice of the dress and the lovely, simple draping on the skirt. Additionally, the open back adds a touch of sexiness. Givenchy truly perfected the art of timeless classic style. What’s your philosophy on red carpet dressing? I enjoy having fun and experimenting with femininity and masculinity and androgyny. It really depends on my mood. I’ve done high-feminine looks and also embraced suited, punky, androgynous styles. I tend to lean towards a little edge in whatever outfit I choose for the red carpet, but who knows? One day I might opt for a soft, whimsical look.

What was the direction for your glam look? Did you and your team reference any specific styles? Rena Calhoun and Pircilla Pae, my hair and makeup artists, are both incredibly talented and meticulous in their work. I envisioned a hairstyle that was down, emphasizing both volume and length to provide another texture to the look, as my natural hair is straight and silky, much like the dress. Rena and I explored references for a "'90s supermodel blowout" and decided to go for something va-va-voom! Pircilla and I were also keen on K-beauty trends, which we both adore. They excel at creating fresh, luminous skin and sophisticated yet edgy eyeliner. What are your essential beauty products for the red carpet? Mints! And lip balm.

What does it mean for you to be part of a show like The Testaments? I am incredibly proud to be involved with The Testaments. It’s a true honor to be part of the legacy of remarkable storytelling within Margaret Atwood's universe, especially following the phenomenal TV series, The Handmaid's Tale, which I was a huge fan of. Our show offers a fresh perspective on Gilead, and it feels very impactful and relevant. What stood out to you about the character you play, Aunt Vidala? Aunt Vidala is a tough, authoritarian figure at the school, second only to Aunt Lydia. She’s doing what she must to survive in Gilead. What’s fascinating about portraying her is her complexity and skill in navigating the power dynamics in her world. The writers could have easily made her a one-dimensional villain, but she has numerous layers and contradictions that unfold throughout the season. Without giving too much away, I hope we explore how she became the person she is.

The L.A. premiere serves as a reunion for the cast and crew. Who are you most excited to see tonight? This is such a dream team of cast and crew. Walking onto set each day felt like entering a space filled with love and passion. I’m excited to see Chase and catch up on her amazing journey
