The Everygirls are currently embracing their reading phase. We kicked off the year with Onyx Storm, the eagerly awaited third installment in The Empyrean series (fourth book when, Rebeca Yarros?), experienced our hearts breaking during the summer with Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Atmosphere, and are ending the year having been nourished all year long by our beloved authors (shoutout to Ali Hazelwood for releasing six new books this year?!). To sum up, 2025 treated the book-loving community well, and we eagerly anticipate what next year will bring to our reading lists.

After sharing our book recommendations, reviews, and rankings throughout the year, we wanted to gather your insights. What were the books that kept you up late at night? The ones you excitedly shared with friends? The ones that continue to linger in your thoughts months later? As we gear up for our 2026 reading goals, we’re keen to discover curated books that deserve a spot on our TBR lists—and in our hearts—this year. We invited The Everygirl readers to share the best books they read in 2025. Together, respondents reported reading more than 4,000 (!!!) books this year. While you’re spending your Barnes and Noble gift cards and placing holds on Libby, here are the 10 books you should consider, ranked from least to most votes, so be sure to scroll to the end for readers’ top choice of the year.

After the death of Tova Sullivan’s husband, she started working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium. Keeping busy has been her coping mechanism since her son, Erik, mysteriously disappeared on a boat over 30 years ago. Tova forms a connection with Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus residing at the aquarium. Marcellus uncovers what transpired the night Tova’s son went missing, and now he must reveal the truth to her before it’s too late.

Remarkably Bright Creatures demonstrates that the best books endure over time. An instant New York Times bestseller and soon to be adapted into a Netflix film, it’s easy to see why Remarkably Bright Creatures continues to resonate with readers even years after its release. If you haven't picked it up yet or feel it's time for a re-read, consider this your sign.

      9. The Correspondent by Virginia Evans

Sybil Van Antwerp—a mother, grandmother, wife, divorcee, and esteemed lawyer—has led a rich life. Now, her mornings are spent writing letters—to her brother, her best friend, the university president who won’t let her audit a class, Joan Didion, and to one person she writes to often but never sends the letter. When letters from someone in her past start arriving, she must confront one of the most painful times in her life and realizes it might be time to send the letter she has avoided for years.

Favored by both The Everygirl readers and our editorial staff, The Correspondent stands out as one of the most unforgettable books you’ll read. The entire narrative unfolds through letters and emails either sent or received by Sybil, creating a captivating reading experience. Carrie, who called it her favorite book of the year, described it as “a heartfelt reflection on grappling with loss and forming close friendships later in life.”

      Suzanne Collins

When Haymitch’s name is drawn at the reaping on his birthday, he feels all his dreams crumble. Aware he’s been set up for failure, there’s still a part of him that wants to fight and make that fight resonate far beyond the perilous arena.

A new release in The Hunger Games series is guaranteed to land on readers' favorite lists, and Sunrise on the Reaping is no exception. This time, Suzanne Collins transports us to the fiftieth Hunger Games—the one that Haymitch Abernathy, Katniss and Peeta’s future mentor, won. The anticipation surrounding this release was immense, and for Haylee, 28, it surpassed her expectations. "I loved everything about this [book]," she shared. "It was so clever, poignant, and utterly mind-blowing."
