If you’ve ever casually searched the internet for book recommendations, you’ve likely come across Colleen Hoover. Her extensive collection of romance novels has been a staple in online book communities for years, and now we are fortunate to be experiencing the CoHo book-to-movie adaptation phase. It Ends With Us became a big box office success last year, viral clips of Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson filming Verity have appeared on our social media feeds, and now we are finally receiving a trailer for one of my personal favorite Colleen Hoover titles: Regretting You.

Fans of Regretting You have been eagerly anticipating the trailer since the impressive cast was announced. The chance to see Allison Williams, Dave Franco, Mason Thames, and McKenna Grace on screen is more than enough reason to eagerly count down the days until the film premieres. Fortunately, this week, Paramount Pictures has finally released the trailer, and even the most discerning fans are more excited than ever after viewing it. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming film:

      What is Regretting You about?

Like many of Colleen Hoover’s novels, Regretting You fuses touching romance with a narrative so traumatic that readers will be hoping for the characters’ therapy appointments. The story revolves around the mother-daughter pair, Clara (Grace) and Morgan (Williams), as they navigate the aftermath of a devastating accident that changes their family forever. Following the loss of her husband and sister, Morgan uncovers their betrayal and must piece together her shattered life while raising a grieving daughter. As Clara copes with the loss of two of her closest companions, she grows closer to her long-time crush, Miller (Thames).

Directed by Josh Boone—known for The Fault in Our Stars—it's safe to say that tissues are a must when attending the theater. However, the film is not solely a tear-jerker; it also beautifully explores themes of first love, coming of age, complex family relationships, and grief.

Our reaction to the Regretting You trailer

Readers are aware that adaptations can be a tricky matter, as audiences are always ready to bring out the “the book was better than the movie” argument at any moment. However, based solely on the trailer, I can already tell that this point should be tucked away for Regretting You. Despite the uniqueness of their situations, everyone will find something relatable in these characters—whether it’s Clara’s journey of self-discovery or Morgan's struggle to be a mother to a teenager while maintaining her own identity. The chemistry between Mason Thames and McKenna Grace as Miller and Clara, along with the authenticity in Allison Williams’ portrayal of Morgan, is evident even in just a two-minute and 30-second trailer. I’m excited to see how it unfolds in a full feature film.

When does Regretting You come out?

I know we all wish the movie was available immediately so we could binge-watch it after the trailer, but thankfully, we don’t have to wait an entire year. Regretting You will be released in theaters on October 24.
