This latest (and rumored final) season takes place five years in the future, where our beloved characters have swapped their school lives for much more intense realities. Maddy and Lexi have left the dusty streets of Southern California to chase Hollywood's sparkle and allure. Surprisingly, Nate and Cassie are married? (I was taken aback as well). Nate seems to be struggling with a newfound obsession with Matthieu Blazy's Bottega Veneta, while Cassie is making a name for herself as an OnlyFans creator. If that doesn't sound chaotic enough, Trisha Paytas is somehow involved.
If you can't tell, I'm a huge fan; watching the dark and messy narratives that balance between eerily relatable and utterly absurd has become one of my favorite pastimes. Over the years, numerous moments have turned into trending sounds on TikTok, leading us to ponder, in Maddy's words, "Is this play about us?" However, as a fashion editor, it’s the outfits that have captured my attention the most.
One aspect I’ve always loved about the fashion in Euphoria is how many different aesthetics coexist within a single friend group (similar to real life), albeit with a more luxurious, designer twist. Take Alexia Demie’s Maddy Perez; she's the epitome of a fashionista. From Balenciaga to Amina Muaddi, she effortlessly pulls everything together, always serving looks that we admire. Then there's Maude Apatow’s Lexi Howard with her preppy polish; naturally, Miu Miu is her go-to. Even Zendaya’s Rue has donned her share of (vintage) designer pieces, including a Jean Paul Gaultier vest and vintage Roberto Cavalli pants.
The first two seasons are well-documented in costume designer Heidi Bivens's book with A24, *Euphoria Fashion*, where she dissects the looks and aesthetics pivotal to the show's characterization. However, in this season, we sense the emergence of something new. From Rue's desert whites to Maddy's lavish fur jacket, there’s a rejuvenated energy to the fashion this season.
