I’ll confess: Style for those over 50 makes minimalism appear more elegant.

As one of the Gen Z fashion editors at Who What Wear UK, I rarely find myself captivated by a look from someone outside my age group. Naturally, Alexa Chung remains the quintessential It-girl, and Kate Moss is undeniably one of the chicest figures in fashion history. However, to be completely mesmerized? That doesn’t happen often—until Charlize Theron steps into view.

Photographed in New York while promoting her latest project, Apex, Charlize embodied what I refer to as the "new-age minimalist." Her outfits maintain the sleek sophistication traditionally linked to this style while feeling distinctly contemporary, with a hint of edge and undeniable coolness. Imagine fashion-forward cargo Bermuda shorts styled with elegant satin pumps or a voluminous structured shirt paired with striking (faux) fur T-bar heels. Each look is anchored in a familiar color palette, yet there’s a subtle significance about them. Nothing appears forced, and every detail seems thoughtfully chosen. It’s minimalism infused with attitude, and I, for one, can’t get enough of it. Looking at her last three outfits, I haven’t seen such chic ensembles in a long time, and if this is what 50 looks like, I can hardly wait. Scroll down to view and shop the looks.

      1. Shirt + Silk Trousers + T-Bar Heels

This outfit was the catalyst for my fascination. Charlize paired the oversized Saint Laurent Faille Overshirt with loose, flowing silk trousers, creating a striking combination. The details elevate it even further—from her statement faux-fur T-bar heels, cuffed at the ankle for a balloon-trouser effect (brilliant!), to her intentionally oversized trendy sunglasses and slicked-back bob, every aspect works together, striking a balance between refinement and It-girl edge.

      **Shop the Look:**

      - Opt for two sizes up for a fantastic alternative to the sold-out Saint Laurent Faille Overshirt.

      - Reformation Gale Satin Pant

      - Area X Sergio Rossi Amazona Feather-Trimmed Sandals

While this feather-detail heel lacks the T-bar and strap that elevate Charlize’s choice, it’s a close second from Area's recent collaboration with Sergio Rossi.

      - MONCLER Fhaite Pilot-Frame Acetate Sunglasses

In my opinion, these are the most stylish sunglasses of the summer.

      2. Blazer + Bermuda Shorts + Pointed-Toe Heels

It’s not often that a look can feel this elegant while featuring such directional pieces, but Charlize has achieved just that. Starting with the funnel-neck, lace-up top and knee-length cargo Bermuda shorts, this outfit could easily read as overly trend-focused and perhaps a bit Gen Z. However, as with many of her looks, it’s all in the details. The sharply tailored satin single-button blazer provides structure, while her high-pointed pumps add vital polish. Finished with the top-handle Dior Cigale Bag, this is refined styling at its best.

      **Shop the Look:**

      - Versace Satin Tailored Blazer

I’ve managed to find Charlize’s exact blazer.

      - I'll be opting for a draped style instead of her laced leather top.

      - Jaded London Goliath Tailored Shorts

      - Tom Ford Betty 105 Satin Heeled Pumps

Charlize has been seen several times in the timeless Tom Ford Betty pumps.

      - The Dior Cigale Bag is sold out everywhere, but the DeMellier Stockholm offers a similar look.

      3. Blazer + Trousers + Pearl Necklace

On the red carpet for Apex, Charlize demonstrated that a touch of décolletage is appropriate at any age. Instead of a conventional t-shirt or blouse, she adorned herself with a flamboyant Victorian collar adorned with pearls. Balancing her striking accessory with her slightly slouched yet impeccably tailored two-piece suit, she maintains her signature polish while allowing the luxurious pearls to shine. Completing the ensemble with another pointed-toe pump in a matching shade, this outfit features a classic foundation with a bold twist.

      **Shop the Look:**

      - Victoria Beckham Tux Jacket

The structured shoulders and fit of this blazer are just perfection.

      - Jigsaw Modern Crepe Wide Leg Trouser

With their high-waisted, wide-leg design, these trousers will quickly become a wardrobe staple.

      - The Fold Treviso Satin Heels

These sleek, sculptural heels from The Fold are on my wish list.

      - Alaïa Fringed Crocheted Scarf

If I won the lottery, I would be inclined to add some pearl-embellished scarves to my collection.
