Inside the Trendy Hotel Fashion Enthusiasts in L.A. Will Be Reserving This Year
Welcome to Fashion's Finest Stays, a travel series where we provide a fashion-editor perspective on hospitality. Here, you'll gain exclusive insider access to some of the most famous hotels and resorts worldwide, revealing all the details you'll want to know before making a reservation.
It’s widely recognized that all three seasons of HBO's The White Lotus were filmed at a Four Seasons property. This connection is no coincidence; the hospitality brand is synonymous with serene luxury, and its name evokes images of plush bathrobes, spacious suites, and expansive, thoughtfully designed resorts that are truly the stuff of dreams. So when I heard about the latest location opening its doors, I was all ears and soon found myself on the earliest flight.
The Four Seasons Resort Cabo del Sol debuted in 2024 in Cabo San Lucas and quickly ascended to the number one resort in the world, as per Condé Nast. This marks the second Four Seasons in the Baja region, yet it’s situated on a different coastal stretch from its sister property at Costa Palmas, offering a fresh, distinct atmosphere. Remarkably, amidst the numerous sprawling resorts dotting the Cabo coastline, this new property is entirely custom-built, elevating the entire experience with its brand-new, pristine, and expertly designed spaces. Anticipation around the hotel has grown steadily since its inception, and during my visit a year prior to its opening, it felt impressively well-organized. Here’s an inside look at Four Seasons Cabo del Sol and all the essential details for your upcoming visit.
Having lived in L.A. for six years, I'm well-acquainted with the favorite vacation spots of the city’s trendiest residents, and Cabo remains a popular choice as long as nonstop flights connect Angelenos to the Pacific Coast. The abundance of resorts in Cabo can certainly be overwhelming, but I can confidently say that my expectations for the Four Seasons brand were not only met but exceeded. While I appreciate older resorts with compelling histories, there's something special about experiencing a new property in its early days, and Cabo del Sol was meticulously built from the ground up. This ensured that every aspect—how you navigate the space, the details, and the finishes—was carefully curated. The hotel features 96 guest rooms and suites, along with 61 residences, villas, and estates, and each space feels private and thoughtfully designed. The layout is reminiscent of an amphitheater, allowing every room to boast a stunning ocean view. Amenities include three distinct restaurants, a rooftop bar, two large pools (one for families and one for adults), and an expansive spa that offers contrast-therapy circuits.
You can’t discuss a Four Seasons property without touching on its design aesthetic. The brand is renowned for a high-touch luxury experience that remains consistent yet localized across over 130 destinations globally. At Cabo del Sol, the architecture leans toward a clean, modern, and minimalist style, yet it retains elements of traditional Spanish revival design, showcased through dramatic arched doorways, colorful tiles, and terracotta roofs throughout the property. Without getting too caught up in the White Lotus parallels, standing in the open-air lobby with an unobstructed view of the Pacific through one of the colonnades felt like stepping into an alternate season of the show set in Baja. I almost expected to see Jennifer Coolidge's Tanya enjoying a spicy margarita on one of the plush cloud couches.
The resort is designed around a modern hacienda-style village, reflecting how a traditional Mexican town is organized, complete with an open-air market, artist's studio, and boutiques featuring local designers. This unique feature fosters a sense of community within the hotel. During my brief three-day stay, I slipped into a morning routine of strolling through this makeshift town square for coffee before heading to the gym—perhaps my New Yorker instincts at play, but I thoroughly enjoyed this little ritual before sinking into a lounge chair by the pool.
One thing you'll notice at a Four Seasons? They treat you like royalty. From the moment I landed and was collected by a private airport transfer, the attentive service remained consistent throughout my stay. Service can vary based on personal preference, but I found it both prompt and considerate without being intrusive—there was always someone ready to assist when needed, but I never felt overseen. An iPad in my room allowed me to make almost any request, whether standard like room service or niche, such as my last-minute need for nail polish remover (which arrived in a Four Seasons-branded glass container, just so you know). Special touches like an early birthday balloon arrangement and a pastry assortment greeting me in my room, along with refreshing mango and Tajin popsicles delivered each afternoon by the pool, enhanced the experience.
Regarding the food, any expectations I had were quickly surpassed. Every meal exceeded the previous one in delight, and the variety among the three on-site restaurants and rooftop bar was impressive. Highlights included incredibly fresh sushi, a Michelin-worthy wine list, and a rooftop bar with breathtaking coastal views.
