Inside the Trendy Hotel That Fashion Enthusiasts in L.A. Will Be Reserving This Year
Welcome to Fashion's Finest Stays, a travel series that offers a fashion editor's perspective on the hospitality industry. Here, we provide you with exclusive insight into some of the most famous hotels and resorts around the globe, sharing every detail you might want to know before making a reservation. It's widely recognized that all three seasons of HBO's The White Lotus were filmed at a Four Seasons property, which is no coincidence. The hospitality brand epitomizes serene luxury, evoking images of cozy bathrobes, spacious suites, and expansive, minimalistic resorts that resemble scenes from television fantasies. When I discovered that a new location was opening, I was immediately intrigued and soon found myself on the next flight out. The Four Seasons Resort Cabo del Sol debuted in 2024 in Cabo San Lucas and quickly earned the title of the world's top resort according to Condé Nast. This marks the second Four Seasons in the Baja region, set on a different coastline from its sister property at Costa Palmas, and it has a refreshingly distinct ambiance. Notably, amidst the numerous sprawling resorts along the Cabo coastline, this new site was entirely custom-built, elevating the entire experience—every inch was brand new, meticulously clean, and expertly designed. Since its opening, excitement around the hotel has steadily increased, and when I visited a year prior to its official launch, it certainly appeared to operate like a well-oiled machine. Here's an inside look at the Four Seasons Cabo del Sol and all the essential details for an upcoming visit.
Having lived in L.A. for six years, I’m quite familiar with the favorite vacation spots of the city’s most fashionable residents, and Cabo remains a top choice as long as there are direct flights shuttling Angelenos along the Pacific Coast. The abundance of resorts available in Cabo can be overwhelming, but after my visit, I can confirm that all the expectations I had for the Four Seasons brand were not only met but exceeded. While I appreciate older resorts with compelling histories, there's undeniable charm in experiencing a brand-new property during its early days. Cabo del Sol was entirely custom-built from scratch, ensuring that the flow through the spaces and every detail was thoughtfully planned. The hotel features 96 guest rooms and suites, alongside 61 residences, villas, and estates, each feeling private and deliberate. The buildings are arranged in an amphitheater-inspired design, ensuring that every room enjoys a beautiful ocean view. It boasts three distinct restaurants, a rooftop bar, two spacious pools (one family-friendly, the other adults-only), and a fitness-specific pool, plus an expansive spa complete with contrast therapy circuits.
Talking about a Four Seasons property wouldn't be complete without mentioning its design aesthetic. The brand has become synonymous with a specific type of high-touch luxury, consistently upheld across more than 130 locations globally. At Cabo del Sol, the architecture can be described as clean, modern, and minimal, yet it embraces traditional Spanish revival elements with dramatic arched doorways, colorful tiles, and terracotta roofs scattered throughout the property. Not to draw too many comparisons to The White Lotus, but standing in the open-air lobby and gazing at the unobstructed view of the Pacific through one of the porticos, it was hard not to feel like I had entered an alternate fourth season of the show set in Baja. I half-expected to see Jennifer Coolidge's character Tanya enjoying a spicy margarita on one of the plush cloud couches. The entire layout is designed around a modern hacienda-style village that captures the essence of a traditional Mexican town, featuring an open-air market, artist studios, and boutique shops showcasing local designers. This design aspect sets the hotel apart and fosters a community vibe. During my three days there, I fell into a morning routine of walking through this makeshift town square to get coffee before hitting the gym. Perhaps it's my New Yorker side, but I truly enjoyed this little daily ritual before settling on a pool lounger for the day.
One thing about staying at a Four Seasons? They will ensure you feel like you are on a red carpet. From the moment I touched down and was picked up by a private transfer, the exceptional service was evident at every turn. While personal preferences play a significant role, I found the service to be swift and attentive without being intrusive—there was always someone available when I needed assistance, yet I never felt watched, if you catch my drift. An iPad was set up in my room to accommodate any request I could imagine, from standard room service orders to a last-minute plea for nail polish remover when I needed a pedicure touch-up (delivered in a Four Seasons-branded glass container, if you're curious). Additionally, the early birthday balloon arrangement and pastry assortment that welcomed me in my room, along with mini mango and Tajin popsicles delivered to me each afternoon by the pool, added a nice personal touch.
I can’t say what I expected in terms of food beforehand, but whatever I had in mind was
