You don’t need to be an ENT specialist to recognize that scent is the most evocative of the human senses. While the right beach song can transport you to your happy place, no sensation can send you back to a specific time or place— or immerse you in experiences you’ve never had— as quickly as fragrance. Triple-board-certified neurologist Leah Croll, MD, discussed this phenomenon with Who What Wear, noting that scent significantly influences memory due to its direct connection to the brain. “There is an incredibly short distance between smell neurons in the nose and the emotional and memory centers in the brain,” she explains. “No other sense is processed on that kind of ‘expressway.’ Consequently, scent is not just perceived; it’s also felt.” This undeniable truth about scent's ability to transform and transport is what inspires the innovative fragrance brand Discothèque in crafting its distinctive creations, which are steadily gaining fame.
What Is Discothèque? Established in 2024, this emerging fragrance brand, founded by two cofounders—Jessie Willner, 32, and Hanover Booth, 37—bridges the gap between beauty and nightlife, originating from their upbringing in Los Angeles and London. Their relationship, which they describe as “cosmic,” goes beyond being fast friends since their teenage years and travelers in the fashion industry; they discovered years later that their parents once dated. “We often say we should’ve been sisters, and now we kind of are,” Willner humorously shares with Who What Wear. Willner elaborates that Discothèque began as a “passion project taken too far.” The duo, who previously collaborated at Willner’s luxury outerwear label, The Mighty Company, were inspired by their shared experiences on dance floors worldwide. “We wanted to bottle that feeling,” Willner nostalgically explains. Their aim became to create fragrances that could either transport you to a specific moment—complete with sweat, champagne foam, and confetti—or inspire new memories with friends, lovers, and strangers alike.
“Every fragrance begins with a club, feeling, city, song, etc., that holds personal or cultural significance,” she describes. “Then we narrow it down to a night or even an exact moment, real or imagined, within that scene. A secret encounter in a coat check, the dawn at first light.” These imaginative moments aid them in selecting their notes, creating layers, and developing an eclectic fragrance collection. “We were fascinated by an era before our own, prior to the internet, before endless scrolling from bed and living in someone else’s simulation,” Willner continues. “You had to actually go out to find inspiration or to be on a dance floor to discover your next favorite song.” Below are the seven Discothèque fragrances that will draw you to the nearest dance floor.

Discothèque Lola at Coat Check Eau de Parfum Key notes: Baies roses, white chocolate, orris, amber | Inspired by: New York in 1992 “Lola at Coat Check was Jessie’s initial idea,” shares the brand’s copywriter, Jessica Garrison. This scent—a smoky, woody blend with a hint of gourmand sweetness—exemplifies the brand’s range. “There were whispers on lips from behind velvet ropes, but her name was only spoken in love letters or curses. She was Lola. She would take your coat, hang it up, and slip a small white chocolate into its pocket as a surprise for 4 a.m.,” the site depicts, bringing the muse to life. You can almost envision it—the sultry notes of sandalwood and amber from men in tailored suits; pink pepper, grapefruit, and jasmine blooming from dreamy bar cocktails. The scent is rich: fruity, sweet, and smoky all at once. It’s something you must experience to believe.
Discothèque Baise Moi on the Dancefloor Eau de Parfum Key notes: Violet leaf, jasmine, orris, sandalwood | Inspired by: Paris in 1979 If you desire a sophisticated fragrance with a hint of wildness, Baise Moi On the Dancefloor is your answer. Inspired by the ocean and champagne flutes, this upscale scent is chic and refined, yet packed with complexity. Marine notes and powdery orris blend with sultry undertones in an enchanting mix, making it a perfect date-night fragrance and a general confidence booster. “I literally wear Baise Moi to sleep because it fills me with happiness,” Willner reveals. (Pro tip: She suggests layering this scent with Lola at Coat Check due to their complementary orris notes.)
