You don't need to be an ENT specialist to recognize that scent is the most evocative of the human senses. While a catchy beach song might transport you to your happy place, nothing brings you back to a specific moment in time—or immerses you in scenarios you've never experienced—quicker than fragrance. Triple-board-certified neurologist Leah Croll, MD, previously shared this concept with Who What Wear, stating that scent profoundly influences memory due to its direct connection to the brain. “There is an incredibly short distance between smell neurons in the nose and the emotional and memory centers in the brain,” she explains. “No other sense is processed on such a rapid ‘expressway.’ Therefore, scent isn't just detected; it’s felt.” This undeniable fact that scent can change and transport is what inspires the innovative fragrance brand Discothèque to craft the unique blends it is gradually becoming recognized for.

What Is Discothèque? Founded in 2024, this young fragrance brand, which grew out of experiences in both Los Angeles and London, exists at the intersection of beauty and nightlife. Co-founders Jessie Willner, 32, and Hanover Booth, 37, describe their relationship—both personal and professional—as “cosmic,” not only because they spent years traveling together for work in the fashion industry but also because they discovered years later that their parents had dated at one point. “We often say we should have been sisters, and now we kind of are,” Willner humorously tells Who What Wear. Willner elaborates that Discothèque originated as a “passion project that evolved.” Previously working together at Willner's luxury outerwear brand, The Mighty Company, the duo was captivated by their shared experiences on various dance floors around the world. “We wanted to capture that feeling,” Willner recalls. Their aim became to create something that could either transport you to a specific memory—complete with sweat, champagne foam, and falling confetti—or inspire you to create remarkable new memories with friends, lovers, and strangers.

Discothèque Lola at Coat Check Eau de Parfum Key notes: Baies roses, white chocolate, orris, amber | Inspired by: New York in 1992 “Lola at Coat Check was Jessie’s original concept,” reveals the brand’s copywriter, Jessica Garrison. This fragrance—a smoky, woody blend with a hint of sweet gourmand—is one of the most notable examples of the brand's diversity. “There were whispers on lips from behind velvet ropes, but her name was only spoken in love letters or curses. She was Lola. She would take your coat and slip a small piece of white chocolate into its pocket, a surprise for 4 a.m.,” reads the description, bringing the muse to life. You can almost envision it—the sultry wafts of sandalwood and amber from tailored suit-clad gentlemen; pink pepper, grapefruit, and jasmine blooming from hazy cocktails at the bar. The scent is intricate: fruity, sweet, and smoky all at once. It’s something you must experience to comprehend.

Discothèque Baise Moi on the Dancefloor Eau de Parfum Key notes: Violet leaf, jasmine, orris, sandalwood | Inspired by: Paris in 1979 If you're searching for an elegant scent with a hint of wildness, Baise Moi On the Dancefloor is your answer. Inspired by open water and sparkling flutes, this refined fragrance is sleek yet complex. Marine elements and powdery orris intertwine with the seductive notes in a whimsical dance, making it a perfect date-night fragrance and confidence booster. “I literally wear Baise Moi to bed because it floods me with dopamine,” says Willner. (Pro tip: She suggests pairing this scent with Lola at Coat Check due to their complementary orris notes.)
