Hailey Bieber's Goddess Bun is just as carefully crafted as her 24K-gold breastplate.
The Met Gala is in full effect, and the editor commentary is pouring in. Ladies and gentlemen, Ms. Hailey Bieber has made her red carpet appearance for 2026. The star dazzled in a sculptural look by Saint Laurent that perfectly aligned with this year's dress code, complemented by a sculpted bun that is arguably the easiest hairstyle to recreate for the Met Gala. I anticipate at least a dozen variations by morning. After all, Bieber possesses a unique influence over our beauty choices. Who could forget when she unveiled a game-changing blunt bob that triggered a surge in salon visits? Yes, it’s the same situation here.
Irinel de León, the celebrity hairstylist behind Bieber's Met Gala hairstyle, predicts that her impeccably styled bun will also create a buzz. "There’s definitely a trend towards sculptural, controlled hairstyles currently, but I wanted to interpret that in a way that still feels modern and approachable," she told Who What Wear exclusively. Keep scrolling to see the breathtaking style from every angle, along with the specific products and steps needed to replicate it.
"We aimed for the bun to resemble a sculpture—very intentional and refined. It’s minimal, but each detail is thoughtfully executed, so it almost appears as part of the outfit," de León explains. The bun might seem straightforward at first glance, but don't be fooled; its intentionally neat shape is meticulously crafted, just like Bieber's 24K-gold breastplate. "I believe we’ll see more hairstyles that are designed—clean shapes, high polish, yet still soft," de León comments on this year's hair trends. "People are shifting away from overly effortless styles towards something more deliberate." It certainly helps that Bieber is metaphorically at the forefront of this style movement.
To create her sculpted “goddess” bun, de León first applied a mix of Ouai's Leave-In Conditioner and Anti-Frizz Crème to Bieber's hair. She then roughly dried it using the Dyson Airwrap Coanda2x Multi-Styler and Dryer. After removing excess moisture, de León switched to the dryer's Large Round Volumizing Brush attachment to smooth the hair in sections, sealing the shine with Ouai's Hair Oil. To form the bun, she brushed Bieber's hair back into a sleek ponytail, added clip-in extensions (Perlino by Priscilla Valles), and built the bun in sections. "The ends are completely tucked away and concealed, creating that seamless shape," de León notes. "Consider it shaping rather than merely styling."
Finally, she finished the look with a touch of Ouai's Hair Oil for added shine. "The finish isn’t wet or rigid. It strikes that perfect balance of shine and softness, which we achieved by layering lightweight products instead of anything heavy," she adds. And there you have it! Bieber undoubtedly has a knack for a slicked-back bun, so I expect she’ll sport this style often as summer approaches. In the meantime, I’ll be working on perfecting my own version… Here’s how to shop for Hailey Bieber's 2026 Met Gala Hairstyle:
