Could This Be the Top Shoe Trend for Summer 2026? Gracie, Lily-Rose, and Margot Believe It Is.
If there’s one fashion trend that everyone is endorsing for summer 2026, it’s the two-tone shoes—this footwear style made famous and currently popularized by Chanel. For decades, two-tone shoes, ranging from flats to slingbacks, have been a mainstay of the French fashion brand, but this summer, they’re poised to achieve a whole new level of recognition, largely due to the creativity of Chanel’s director, Matthieu Blazy (who previously worked with Bottega Veneta). He debuted innovative interpretations of the style in his first collection for the spring/summer 2026 season and has continued to enhance them with each new release of designs.
We’re not alone in our admiration; celebrities share our enthusiasm for Chanel’s two-tone footwear. However, they didn’t have to wait in line at Chanel for a pair on the first drop day of S/S 26—that was just us. The most stylish of them have been spotted donning their own pairs around the city—at Chanel shows, certainly, but also meandering through Tribeca and even attending the Met Gala, along with all the glamorous after-parties.
Recently, in just a few days, three well-known individuals from film and music have been seen flaunting this trendy summer footwear, starting with Gracie Abrams. She was seen in Tribeca sporting one of the most impressive street style looks of the year. The "I Love You, I'm Sorry" artist and Chanel ambassador wore a raglan T-shirt advocating for voting, tucked into sleek pleated gray trousers. Enhancing her outfit was an oversized leopard-print flap bag from Chanel and black-and-white two-tone pumps from Blazy’s initial collection. Shoes often serve as the final touch to an outfit and can sometimes appear unintentional or poorly coordinated, but this shoe trend never falls into that category. They complete the ensemble, creating a polished and fashionable look.
On the first Monday in May, also known as Met Gala day, two-tone shoes were prominently featured on the Van Gogh-inspired carpet, showcased by several Chanel guests, including models Bhavitha Mandava and Awar Odhiang, along with Lily-Rose Depp. She combined her turquoise-and-black dipped-toe pumps with a cocktail-length dress inspired by the 1920s, in the same oceanic hue. The entire ensemble seemed to be taken directly from the set of Aquamarine, accentuated by hand-sewn paillettes designed to mimic butterflies scattered throughout the dress’s sheer silk silhouette.
Now that another Met Gala has concluded, celebrities are still lingering in New York City, basking in the aftermath of fashion’s grandest night. One such star, Margot Robbie, was seen in Nolita, donning an elevated-casual look featuring—surprise—two-tone Chanel heels with a sharp square toe. She paired them with classic black jeans and a coordinating blazer, complemented only by a quilted flap bag with gold accents. In contrast to Depp’s ensemble, Robbie’s was more understated and simple, showcasing the versatility of two-tone shoes. They have a significant impact regardless of the styling—be it for the formal atmosphere of the Met Gala or for casual errands in Lower Manhattan. That’s what makes them the top shoe trend of the summer; they can adapt to any occasion.
