Actress Emma Myers is quite busy, featuring in some of the most cherished and popular franchises currently available. When she's not battling monstrous classmates or showcasing mesmerizing choreography (shoutout to "The Dead Dance" fans!) in Wednesday or exploring the Overworld in A Minecraft Movie, she takes on the role of the charming Gen Z detective Pip Fitz-Amobi in A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, which has just kicked off its much-anticipated second season. Even while talking over Zoom during the press tour for AGGGTM, the sweet and reserved Myers is in the thick of filming season 3 of Wednesday, embodying a "No sleep. Bus. Club. Another club…" lifestyle. However, she wouldn’t prefer it any other way. Her enthusiasm shines as we delve into the details of Pip and the second season of AGGGTM. In the wake of the first season's impressive success on Netflix, the mystery thriller is back to captivate fans of Holly Jackson's best-selling YA series, presenting a fresh, suspense-filled investigation to crack and an abundance of Pip-Ravi moments sure to make hearts flutter. As Pip matures this season, so does Myers.

This season has flown by, which is wild, but it’s been a lot of fun. Any new dance sequences in this season? I’m not sure, as I haven't read all the scripts yet. They’re not handed out freely. I typically receive the scripts just before we begin shooting the block, so it’s a mystery! Were you taken aback by the popularity of the Dead Dance? Not really, since it’s Lady Gaga, so I expected it to be a phenomenon. I’m thrilled with how receptive people have been, and getting to dance at the O2 [Arena] was surreal. I definitely knew the song would excite fans because it’s Lady Gaga.

What excites you about coming back as the teenage sleuth? I find that I appreciate each book more than the last, and I really enjoyed my time in the first season. I made fantastic friends, and I always feel a bit unsettled if I start something without seeing it through. So, I thought, "I need to dive back in and complete this next season." I think the show tackles many significant topics, and I’m glad to raise awareness through it. Plus, portraying Pip is quite a challenge, which I find rewarding. I adore the books and the cast, so returning felt like an obvious choice. With the first season completed, did you feel more confident stepping back into Pip’s shoes for season 2, or were there still nerves? It's a mix, honestly. I felt a bit more assured since I had already completed one season, but I think we were all quite nervous with the high expectations surrounding it after the books. However, Holly Jackson, the author of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, wrote this season, so I felt secure with the material. She knows her story inside out, so that aspect was comforting. Yet, going back to it—especially using an accent that isn’t my own—can be daunting. There’s excitement about starting anew and bringing a new story, but at the same time, you want to make sure you’re doing everything correctly. It’s a blend of fear and excitement. Do you have any tricks to help you with your English accent? How do you prepare? I don’t watch any related content because Pip's accent is very region-specific. I’m not adopting a London accent or a Northern one; it’s Standard Southern British English (SSBE). I have an amazing dialect coach named Elsbeth, who has been instrumental. I’m incredibly grateful for her because, during season 1, I didn’t have her on set with me. I would have a weekly session, which was insufficient, but I joined late last season, giving me limited time to learn the accent. Going into the second season, I insisted that my dialect coach be on set daily, and I wanted to rehearse my lines every day. It also helps to be around the entire English cast; being around people speaking that way constantly is beneficial. Living in Bristol and having many English friends has also played a significant role.
