Exclusive interview with AY YOLA for the magazine "KinoReporter" about cinema, fate, and traditions.

The Bashkir group AY YOLA, whose name translates to "laws of the universe," has taken the charts by storm worldwide (the collective is in the top 30 charts in 60 countries and in the top 10 in 30 countries), while also conquering the domestic film industry. The musicians have a soundtrack for the film "August" and a collaboration with "Smeshariki." An exclusive interview with the group was published in the summer issue of the magazine "KinoReporter" and on the official website of the publication. Ruslan Shaikhitdinov, his daughter Adele, and Rinat Ramazanov shared how they recorded a cover of "Black Moon" for "August" using traditional instruments (dombra, kurai, kubyz), why they decided to work with a children's audience, and what the sacred epic "Ural-Batyr" means to them.

      — The first song we released was called "Batyrs." And they paved the way for us, as true warriors should. Although we were betting on "Humay," its popularity did not come as a surprise to us. The surprise was the speed at which it became popular. It was as if an avalanche had come down. Everyone's phones were buzzing: everyone wanted interviews — both foreign media and Russian, absolutely everyone, — shares group member Ruslan Shaikhitdinov.

And now a truly serious interview has been published in the magazine "KinoReporter."

      — You know what strikes me about them the most? Their attitude towards culture, history, and their roots. In an era when many chase trends, they take the ancient Bashkir epic, folk traditions, legends, and turn them into something modern, understandable, and captivating for millions of people, — says the editor-in-chief and editorial director of "KinoReporter," Maria Lemesheva. — Of course, we first asked them about the films that shaped them in childhood, about their collaboration with "Smeshariki," about shooting music videos on Baikal and in Yakutia. But in the end, we managed to understand the "laws of the universe." The group AY YOLA performed at our "Avans" award, and it was just that case where the magic works not only on stage but also beyond it.

      — The world is evolving, new technologies are emerging, states are changing. But eternal meanings remain. Perhaps that is why connections to roots, culture, tradition, customs, and faith are so important now. Regardless of confession or nationality. It resonates with everyone. We receive messages from all corners of the world — from Mexico to China, from Korea to the Philippines, — explains the group's success Rinat Ramazanov.
