The Trendy Lower East Side Label New Yorkers Are Sporting This Summer

      My role involves noticing trends that emerge in somewhat niche contexts. I've reached the point where I can identify what someone is wearing on the street at all times: "Those are Levi's 501 '90s ankle length," or "That skirt is from Cou Cou." A standout moment was when I asked a server if her nail polish was Essie's Clam Bake one summer and received a pleasantly surprised response, "Yes, how did you know that?" Lately, I've been observing personalized canvas tote bags and colorful leather ballet flats from Alex Mill all over New York City. Upon investigating, I learned that this brand began in the Lower East Side in 2012 with the goal of creating the ideal shirt. In my research, I discovered some family backstory: the founder, Alex Drexler, is the son of Millard “Mickey” Drexler, who established Old Navy and Madewell and served as CEO of both Gap and J.Crew. Beyond Manhattan and Brooklyn, I’ve also seen it online, styled by Courtney Grow, Julia Mervis, and our editor-in-chief, Kat Collings. I even came across a TikTok that referred to it as "Alex Mill summer." At the moment, The Perfect Weekday Tote and the Prince Street Ballet Flat are items on my summer wishlist.
