Ballet Flats and Two Hermès Bags? Kate Moss Is Perfectly Nailing Over-50s Fashion
August marks the final stretch of summer, serving as one of the last chances to escape to a serene Mediterranean location and bask in the warm temperatures and clear skies. For some, this entails ticking off various European summer spots that have been tempting us all season long. For others, it may mean taking advantage of the typical British weather for a weekend getaway to Brighton or Margate. However, for Kate Moss, it signifies her annual journey to the Balearic Islands, where she certainly makes quite an impression.
Arriving in Formentera earlier today, the supermodel demonstrated that a travel wardrobe doesn’t have to be confined to what fits under the seat on an EasyJet flight. She arrived at the port with an assortment of designer accessories, carrying a collection of Hermès bags valued at over £50,000. Now that’s a stylish way to travel.
In a manner that would surely receive Jane Birkin’s nod of approval—after all, Jean-Louis Dumas was inspired to design the Hermès Birkin after Birkin expressed that her classic basket bag wasn’t suitable for holding all her items—Moss stepped out with a Birkin tucked under her left arm and a Kelly bag slung casually over her shoulder. Truly, a girl can only dream.
Would we expect anything less from fashion’s iconic figure, Kate Moss? She’s the woman renowned for sporting pirate boots since the ‘90s, turning Hunter Wellingtons into a staple item, and famously hanging out of a building window while smoking a cigarette. Nevertheless, it’s refreshing to see such luxurious items being used as intended.
To complete her look, she also broke the unofficial style rule of avoiding all-black, choosing a sheer dress paired with French-style patent ballet flats. This isn’t the first time the 52-year-old has garnered attention for her inventive use of Hermès leather goods or her unconventional take on summer holiday fashion. Around this time last year, Moss was photographed using a Kelly bag as her beach tote, leaving it open as she walked through the sand with her daughter, Lila. Only time will reveal how she will utilize her luxury items on this trip, but given this indication, we wouldn’t be surprised if she repurposes them to hold her souvenirs.
