This SPF is a must-have in Paris and London—beauty editors are going wild for its launch in the U.S.
Let’s be honest: The search for the "ideal" sunscreen is like a myth. Different individuals prioritize various aspects when choosing SPF—such as filter type, texture, fragrance, and tint—dependent on their skin type, tone, and lifestyle. As a result, it is extremely rare (almost never) for a single formula to satisfy everyone’s needs. That said, Ultra Violette's Skinscreen comes closest to being a universal favorite. The only drawback? This Australian suncare brand is available only overseas—think of places like Space NK in the U.K., Galeries Lafayette in Paris, and Sephoras in Sydney and Melbourne. Since its launch in 2019, Ultra Violette has gained international acclaim, with a Skinscreen sold every 20 seconds. Beauty editors tend to stockpile bottles whenever they visit abroad or ask friends to bring back a refill (guilty as charged). So, when I learned that the brand was preparing to launch in the U.S., I eagerly requested to try these well-loved formulas. And I must say, they're impressive. You can now purchase them online at Sephora, so I highly recommend you get at least one bottle (or two, or three…). Considering that beauty editors will travel thousands of miles to obtain these essentials, I anticipate they will sell out quickly. Read on for details about this sought-after SPF.
Ultra Violette is launching five products for its first U.S. introduction: Supreme Screen (or "Skinscreen" to loyal fans); Velvet Screen; Future Screen; two shades of Sheen Screen (a tinted SPF lip balm); and Vibrant Screen, a new face-and-body sunscreen exclusive to the U.S. Each product features SPF 50 and is crafted by Ultra Violette's in-house team in Australia, which adheres to some of the strictest performance standards and regulations for SPF.
For face formulations, there is something to cater to every preference. Skinscreen is a highly moisturizing chemical sunscreen with a fantastic slip (its satin finish is what made it popular among editors); Future Screen is a mineral, zinc-based formula with a thin, easily spreadable texture (and it never leaves a white cast); while Velvet Screen, another mineral option, helps to mattify oily skin and gently blur pores. I usually prefer mineral sunscreens due to my sensitive, acne-prone skin—and let me tell you, these two are fantastic. Velvet Screen has a slightly tacky texture that adheres well to makeup (almost like a primer), while Future Screen has a serum-like consistency and is perfect for daily wear. That said, Skinscreen is one of the few chemical sunscreens I’ve tried (and loved) while traveling, and I’m pleased to report that the U.S. version meets the high expectations.
It’s worth noting that some of the UV filters in the original Skinscreen have not yet been approved in the U.S. (which is why beauty editors stockpile them abroad), so Ultra Violette did have to slightly modify the formula to comply with current FDA regulations. However, the final product retains the same silky feel. "It’s essential for the U.S. range to match our global versions, so we conducted extensive blind and panel testing on any adjusted formulations to ensure U.S. customers receive the same Skinscreen experience we are known for in other regions," co-founder Ava Matthews stated in a press release.
With the weather finally warming up (53ºF in NYC!), now is the perfect time for this exciting launch. While SPF is important year-round, it’s crucial to be diligent about reapplication when UV rays are stronger (which is right about now). Consider this your reminder to stock up on your favorite sunscreen—I know beauty editors (myself included) will be clamoring to collect these beloved formulas in bulk.
