Sabrina Carpenter's makeup artist informed me that this "outdated" lip trend is set to receive a significant update in 2025.
It was a chilly, rainy night in New York City when I met Carolina Gonzalez at an Armani Beauty dinner celebrating the debut of the brand's new Vertigo Lift mascara (which, as a side note, has since become one of the best mascaras I've ever experienced). After the meal, I made my way over to the renowned celebrity makeup artist—who, for those who may not know, has crafted nearly all of Sabrina Carpenter's notable makeup looks this year—to discuss the top makeup trends from the award season. While I anticipated an engaging conversation about star-studded trends, I could never have predicted that I'd walk away with the next big makeup trend forecasted for 2025, especially one that sounded so... retro.
Never one to question the experts, I reflected on this timeworn trend and how Gonzalez envisions its revival. I feel it's essential to share this information, so I'm relaying her prediction for the upcoming lip trend that is about to make waves this year, and it’s surprisingly quite wearable. After sharing her expertise on the opulent, Old Hollywood-inspired lips she frequently creates for the red carpet, Gonzalez revealed her outlook on this year’s lip trend landscape. “I sense a frosted moment is coming,” Gonzalez told me in our quiet corner of the expansive Armani Ristorante. While she admits that this trend feels as though it has already seen its prime, she envisions a fresh twist on it.
In 2025, Gonzalez is “feeling chocolate frosted tones”—a bolder take on the shimmery lipstick finish that was popular in the early 2000s. While celebrities like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears made the frosted lip a staple in soft pink and icy nude hues, Gonzalez believes the trend will darken as the year progresses.
Makeup artist and content creator Victoria Lyn recently shared an Instagram Reel highlighting the comeback of this once-favored lipstick finish, showcasing stars like Sydney Sweeney and Madelyn Cline sporting shimmery formulas at spring events. “I’ve been seeing it all over the place, and brands are launching new lipsticks to emphasize it,” Lyn mentioned while displaying a brand-new, shifting bronze shade from Half Magic—a refreshing upgrade from the ultra-pale tones of the past.
But don’t just take our word for it—models Gigi Hadid and Jasmine Tookes have also chosen dimensional, deep lip colors in recent months, setting the trend for the shades we should be collecting as this movement gains traction. We understand the challenge of keeping up with the latest beauty trends, so we’ve simplified this emerging lip look for you.
