      "The space exuded a sense of grandeur, yet simultaneously felt unfinished and raw," says COS design director Karin Gustafsson the day after the brand's S/S 25 show. The collection was unveiled in the Dionyssomarble Quarry, an expansive marble structure in Dionysos, Greece, just a short drive from Athens. Notable attendees included influencers like Tamu McPherson and Lucy Williams, along with A-list celebrities such as Adrien Brody and Jodie Turner-Smith. Gustafsson shared that the collection drew initial inspiration from Renaissance paintings, which combine both grandiosity and muted color palettes. Considering COS's commitment to minimalism and practicality, she aimed to preserve these principles while also incorporating the opulence of the Renaissance. "We were really intrigued by the concepts of extreme masculinity and femininity, skin exposure, and material draping," she explains. "We melded that with COS’s refined, understated approach." Finding a venue that reflected this vision was challenging, but Gustafsson’s team succeeded in choosing the Dionyssomarble Quarry, renowned for producing the same marble used by ancient Athenians for sculpting the Parthenon and Erechtheion on the Acropolis. "When it came up, it felt quite natural," Gustafsson remarks. The quarry, awe-inspiring and lavish yet stark and unrefined, was an ideal environment for the showcased clothing.       What a Venue

      Runway show locations that truly astonish and surprise are rarer than one might think. While a few brands like Jacquemus and Saint Laurent often go all out in their venue selection, many tend to stick with familiar spaces, enhancing them with props to create a seasonal sense of novelty. Given this, COS's Grecian venue was exceptionally impressive. Photos don't capture its essence—believe me. Carved from a landscape of white marble, the space was otherworldly, rendering all attendees spellbound. This sense of wonder was momentarily interrupted by the sound of heels clicking on marble as models dressed in pastel pink, slate gray, and white emerged from behind a high stone wall. From that moment, everyone’s focus shifted to the S/S 25 collection, which was as captivating as its setting.

      Guests in Greece

      Alongside many influential online figures, COS welcomed major Hollywood stars in Athens for its S/S 25 show. Adrien Brody, the lead from the film The Brutalist, likely felt at home in the venue, having previously filmed in an Italian quarry for the Golden Globe-winning movie. As the star of COS's S/S 25 campaign, his presence at the show carried even greater significance. Other notable attendees included Sharon Stone, Gemma Chan, and Jodie Turner-Smith, who arrived in one of the collection's most buzzed-about outfits featuring slate-gray bloomers and a funnel-neck suede anorak.

      The New Renaissance

      "Our starting point was Renaissance paintings," Gustafsson reveals about the S/S 25 collection. "We affectionately titled it The New Renaissance." Although COS doesn’t typically seek inspiration from such a distant past, her team was captivated by the artwork from that era and opted to merge the emotions evoked by those pieces with COS's unembellished aesthetic. "The colors were significant," she notes. "In these old artworks, there's an abundance of color, but nothing is overwhelming—it's as if there’s a filter applied." She also examined objects and silhouettes from the Renaissance to help inform the shapes of the collection's garments. According to Gustafsson, who has been with the brand since its founding in 2006, the key to innovation each season is "remaining attuned to inspiration" while consistently upholding COS's identity.

      Buzzy Buys

      One of the highlights of COS's show, beyond the glamorous front row and venue, was that nearly every item from the collection was available for purchase, including some of its most coveted pieces. Attendees couldn’t stop discussing sporty jackets, bloomers, and sock boots after the show, with many using their international data to place orders for fear of items selling out. (The bloomers have already sold out, though I'm hoping for a restock.) Additionally, as spring unfolds, more pieces will be available on COS’s website, including the highly sought-after jelly fisherman sandals and ballet flats first revealed in the quarry earlier this week.
